CUERATED is a podcast rooted in music and tuned to culture. Hosted by Carlos Esqueda, each episode explores the intersection of sound, style, identity, and storytelling through conversations with artists, musicians, creatives, and cultural voices shaping what's next. In a world driven by trends, algorithms, and constant noise, CUERATED takes a slower approach—focusing on thoughtful dialogue, creative process, and the stories behind the work. Come for the music, stay for the culture.Carlos Esqueda アート

  • Do you like it or just like being the one who knows?
    2026/10/13

You spent $1,500 on a jacket nobody recognizes and somehow you’re the best dressed person in the room. Weird flex, but it works.

Hypebeast culture didn’t die, it got a rebrand. The logos got smaller, the references got more obscure, and the guest lists got tighter. On this episode of CUERATED, Carlos breaks down why archival fashion feels like a secret handshake, what the “ball hog” aesthetic says about status, and why some people want their favorite artist to blow up just enough to prove they were right.

We get into gatekeeping in music and fashion, the difference between loving a culture and wanting to own it, and what happens when TikTok turns a whole scene into a 20 second aesthetic. Then it gets personal. Private members’ clubs like Soho House sell access itself, creative circles run on who knows who, and social media makes us pick things based on how they’ll look to other people.

So here’s the question: would you still wear it, listen to it, or go if nobody knew and you couldn’t post it?

You’ll leave with a better sense of what’s actually your taste and what’s just you chasing the next thing that makes you feel ahead.

  • The Real Cost of Chasing a Creative Career in New York
    2026/10/04

I live in the greatest city in the world for creatives and some days it feels like I'm watching it through a window.

A previous episode on my life in NYC was about why New York is the best place to build a creative life. This one is the other half. Because between the free gallery openings and the 2am pizza slices, a lot of us are quietly feeling behind, burnt out, and weirdly alone in a city of 8 million people.

On this episode of CUERATED, Carlos gets honest about why creative community is everywhere and still so hard to find when you work a full-time job, what it means when every person at the bar has a podcast, a brand, and a zine, how rejection hits differently when it comes in bulk, and the "what if I don't make it" spiral that this city is happy to feed. He also gets into the part that surprised him most: getting so caught up hunting for something to do in New York that he forgot he actually lives in New York.

It's not a rant. It's the receipts, plus one small thing he's changing. If you're a creative in NYC, thinking about moving here, or already wondering if you're doing it wrong, this one's for you.

You'll leave feeling less alone in the grind and a little more present in the city you're in.

  • How Music Awards Really Work: VMAs, Grammys, FYC Explained
    2026/09/29

Madonna just won Artist of the Year at the VMAs. She beat Taylor, Sabrina, and Ariana. And within an hour the internet decided it was rigged. Carlos went looking for who actually made that call, and the answer is stranger than a conspiracy.

On this episode of CUERATED, we break down how the VMAs really work, from ten votes per day to Power Hours and Double Days that make fan voting feel like a loyalty program. Then we go to the Grammys, where about 12,000 Recording Academy members decide, and the whole game is FYC: billboards on Sunset, museum showcases, and campaigns that start 18 months out. Also what it means when two electorates ask two completely different questions.

It's part restaurant guide, part stan culture, part media literacy. Who do you trust more, the Michelin guide, Google Maps stars, or that one friend with real taste? Carlos is not saying anything is bought. He's saying nobody can see the machinery, so we fill in the blanks ourselves.

You'll walk away knowing exactly who votes, who campaigns, and why a trophy is starting to feel more like a receipt for attention.
