  • Return: Amos
    2026/10/11
The sermon will come from Amos, a challenging book that exposes the disconnect between Israel’s worship and the way they lived. Rather than surveying the whole book, we’ll look at three observations that still challenge us today (especially on Thanksgiving weekend): they had plenty, but they weren’t grateful; they worshipped, but they weren’t obedient; they were blessed, but they weren’t a blessing. Amos reminds us that gratitude is more than words — it shapes how we receive God’s gifts, how we treat others, and what we do with what God has entrusted to us. We’ll finish with a brief congregational response built around these three themes and then read Amos 5:24 together: “But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream."

  • Return: Jonah
    2026/10/04
This sermon will introduce us to the prophet Jonah, whom God sends to Ninevah, the capital of Israel's most feared and violent enemy. We'll explore how God's mercy reaches farther than we expect, extending even to those we would consider enemies. Other themes that could be explored include resentment towards outsiders, nationalism that limits God's compassion, and the challenge of wanting justice for others but mercy for ourselves.

  • Return: Joel
    2026/09/27
In this sermon we will meet the prophet Joel as he addresses Israel when a devastating locust plague has ravaged the land and left the nation in crisis. Special focus will be given to Joel 2:12-17 and the call of the Lord to return to Him. We'll consider how God is able to use crisis and disruption to awake His people and call them back to genuine repentance. Themes that could be touched on include spiritual complacency, genuine repentance, returning to God rather than merely fixing circumstances, and responding to hardship with humility rather than bitterness.

  • Return: Obadiah
    2026/09/20
This sermon in Obadiah will mainly focus on verses 10–21 and center on Edom’s response to Judah’s suffering— they stood at a distance, gloated over their downfall, and even profited from it. The big idea is that God opposes the pride that celebrates another person’s pain and calls His people to compassion instead. We'll close by turning to Jesus, contrasting Edom’s posture with His kingdom: blessed are the merciful, love your enemies, the Good Samaritan, and “with the measure you use it will be measured to you.” It should move from conviction into mercy, humility, and becoming people who draw near rather than stand aloof.

  • Return: A Study of the Minor Prophets
    2026/09/13
This sermon will launch our new series called Return: A Study of the Minor Prophets. We'll begin with an introduction to this period of Biblical history and then settle into Zechariah 1:1-6 as a starting point for the journey. Verse three echoes a familiar call from God through His prophets: "return to me...and I will return to you" (some scholars count over 100 variations of this invitation throughout the twelve books).
