- Two witnesses reported seeing a woman matching Cheryl’s description walking south on Harbor Street at about 6:15 PM, a route that should take seven minutes.
- A dark blue or green pickup truck was recorded by Donna Phelps as idling at the mouth of the service alley beside the inner harbor wall around 6:00 PM and left by 6:20 PM.
- Detective Alan Marsh filed the missing persons report and by November 1992 concluded accidental drowning due to high tide at 8:52 PM, and the case subsequently went cold.
- On September 14, 2023, a section of the century-old granite wall collapsed revealing human remains and a green tote bag bearing a credit union name that operated only between 1988 and 1996.
