Newsday reported that data maintained by the New York State Education Department showed that Long Island school districts reported over 1900 verified bullying, harassment, and discrimination incidents in the 2024-2025 academic year. That sounds like a lot, but the number of incidents dropped by 26% from the year prior. However, child advocates said the data fails to show the full scope of the problem, since many students and parents don't know they can file formal complaints or are afraid to come forward. Bill McIntyre talks with Joseph A. Salamone, the Founder & Executive Director of The Long Island Coalition Against Bullying, and a member of the New York State Temporary Task Force on Cyberbullying.
