Hello everyone!
In this episode, I sit down with Joaquin Martinez, a Houston-based Yaqui tribal member born and raised in Tucson, who studied engineering at the University of Arizona (graduated 1993), spent a 35-year career with Fortune 100 companies, and retired in 2020 to grow Mariposa Energy Consulting into a family-owned business with about 30 employees.
He shares how growing up in a single-parent household helped him develop life skills that translate into business strengths, and he introduces his new book, “The Super Generation,” a guide for first-generation professionals to build lasting success and generational prosperity.
Joaquin explains the book’s core ideas—supportiveness, uniqueness, passion, enterprise, and resilience—and uses the monarch butterfly “super generation” as a blueprint for consuming knowledge, shedding bad habits, transforming into leaders, overcoming barriers, protecting finances, building a supportive “huddle,” and multiplying success by giving back.
He closes with advice he would give to his "younger self" and anyone needs a little motivation and direction.
