We talk about brotherhood, support, and the importance of asking for help in the first responder community. But what happens when the resources being shared aren't right for someone's situation, when well-intentioned advice overlooks the risks families face, or when the people in positions to support others respond with judgment instead of understanding?
In this episode, we explore the complicated realities of social media, first responder families, peer support, and the disconnect between what we say about supporting one another and what that support actually looks like. Good intentions don't always translate into good support, and not every resource or solution is right for every person or department.
Real support requires more than sharing a phone number or telling someone to reach out. It requires listening, understanding the circumstances, recognizing the risks, and creating an environment where people can seek help without fear of judgment or consequences.
