    In this episode, Associate Pastor Rev. Kathy Altman highlights a Spotlight segment between BHUMC's Lead Pastor Rev. Dr. Dana Werts and Teri Kwiatek. Teri is the Outreach Coordinator for the Frederick Rescue Mission and connected to Downtown Christian Fellowship, a ministry sponsored by Brook Hill. Frederick Rescue Mission opened in 1964 with humble offerings and a desire to make an impact on a community in need. What began with a thrift store and 10-bed shelter for homeless men has expanded to touch the lives of tens of thousands of people in our community over the years.  Downtown Christian Fellowship began in 2015 as a faith community that welcomes people from all races and backgrounds who can come together for fellowship, worship, Bible discussion, and encouragement. Kathy Altman sits down with BHUMC's B.A. List and Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) Chapter Support Lead Lou Stavely to discuss the amazing work to provide every child in need with a bed. SHP has a location in Ijamsville, Maryland and began like many other charities, in a garage. It was Christmastime, a time of joy and happiness, a time of giving and love, but also a time of bitter, cold weather and snowstorms. A project that was started with the build of one bed for a single family developed into something a whole lot more. The wood left over from the first bunk inspired an idea, “Who else could benefit from this bunk?” BHUMC has partnered with SHP on previous bed builds and recently sponsored an event in May 2023. CrossRoads is a non-profit ministry dedicated to bringing recovery to men caught in the vicious cycle of addiction, hurt, and pain by providing them a safe place to build their recovery, gain work skills, and learn to live in community again.  BHUMC has partnered with CrossRoads several times over the years. Brook Hill’s Volunteers in Mission (VIM) have two work days scheduled in May 2023 to help with painting, gardening and carpentry. Listen in to learn more about this incredible facility and ministry.

    In this episode, Associate Pastor Rev. Kathy Altman sits down with Executive Director Taylor Jones and Outreach Coordinator Yvette Hess from Bikes for the World. In 2023 BHUMC partnered with Bikes for the World. Their mission is to make affordable, good quality used bicycles available to low-income people in developing countries. These donated bikes provide better transport for work, education, and health care. Bikes for the World also generates additional skilled employment in bike repair and maintenance overseas, and provides satisfying environmental and humanitarian service opportunities for volunteers locally in the Washington, DC Metro region.
