  • NHL Hockey Player Riley Sheahan
    2026/01/28

Riley Sheahan’s career is a reminder that hockey is built on relationships as much as results.

Riley was drafted to the NHL 21st overall by the Detroit Red Wings in 2010. He went on to play 12 NHL seasons, appearing in 637 games across six teams. One of the defining moments of his career came in Detroit, when he ended a long goal drought by scoring twice in the final game ever played at Joe Louis Arena. A moment he shared with teammates and a city that stayed behind him.

Since retiring in October 2024, Riley has continued to focus on connection off the ice. His apparel company ‘Straight Shooters’ is a nod to the power of friendship that has carried him throughout life.

In this episode, Riley talks about the friendships that endured his NHL career, why getting back to spontaneity and fun with your friends and family is so crucial to happiness, and how he navigated life after the NHL.

  • Jon Montgomery - Olympic Gold Medalist & Host of Amazing Race Canada
    2026/01/14

Jon Montgomery is one of Canada’s most recognizable Olympians. He’s not just remembered for winning gold in men’s skeleton at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, but for how he celebrated it. His walk through Whistler Village with a pitcher of beer as fans sang O Canada became an instant Canadian sports moment. Jon has said that if that’s what he’s remembered for, he considers himself the luckiest guy on Earth.

After his Olympic career, Jon transitioned into television, finding a second calling as the longtime host of The Amazing Race Canada. Since 2013, the role has allowed him to travel coast to coast, experience the country up close, and witness human relationships, resilience, and competition in real time, all while staying connected to storytelling and sport. He was on the mat in Halifax, Nova Scotia when Bromance’s very own Ty Smith won Season 9 alongside his partner (and now wife) Kat.

In this episode, Jon reflects on Olympic gold, an unforgettable celebration, and how hosting The Amazing Race Canada has given him a front-row seat to witnessing the power of friendship.

  • Jim Playfair - NHL Coach and Player - But Also Dylan's Dad
    2025/12/17

From first-round NHL draft pick to longtime hockey coach, Jim Playfair has seen nearly every corner of the hockey world. After breaking in with Edmonton and Chicago and grinding through the WHL, AHL, IHL, and ECHL, he moved behind the bench and built a résumé that includes ECHL Coach of the Year, a Calder Cup title, an NHL head-coaching stint with the Calgary Flames, and years as an associate coach in Arizona and with the Edmonton Oilers. He’s now back developing young talent with the Prince George Cougars.

Known for his intensity (yes, there is that infamous stick breaking moment) but Jim Playfair also built a reputation as a straight-up communicator who knows how to get the most out of his players on and off the ice.

Not only does Jim have an impressive career, he’s also Dylan Playfair’s Dad!

Dylan, Ty and Jim dig into Jim’s path through the leagues, the reality of coaching at every level, what he’s learned from decades in the game, and how their family’s hockey background shaped each of them in different ways.

  • From the NHL to Shoresy - It's legendary storyteller Terry Ryan
    2025/12/10

Today on the show Dylan Playfair and Ty Smith are joined by Terry Ryan, a man who’s lived about five lifetimes’ worth of stories already and he’s here to tell them.

Born in St. John’s and raised in Mount Pearl, Terry was drafted 8th overall by the Montreal Canadiens, making him one of the highest NHL draft picks ever to come out of Newfoundland and Labrador. His pro career may not have unfolded the way he expected, but Terry went on to make his mark in ball hockey, representing Team Canada at six world championships.

Off the ice, he’s reinvented himself as an actor, popping up in hit shows like Shoresy, Jason Momoa's Frontier and Hudson & Rex. He's also an author with two memoirs that pull no punches about the highs and lows of life in hockey and beyond.

In true Terry fashion, on his 47th birthday, he suited up for the Newfoundland Growlers in the ECHL becoming the oldest player to ever hit the ice in that league, complete with a fight for good measure of course.

Terry Ryan is a storyteller, a scrapper, and a guy who knows the value of finding good friends and hanging onto them for life.
