  • 432: Max Hovey and NO FATS, NO FEMS: A Guide to Queer Empathy and Unpacking Prejudice
    2026/05/19

Max Hovey! Author! Queer sex educator! Friend! Delight! More!

Max and I have a great chat! You can have a great listen!

And here's some info about Max and his new book out today:

"From acclaimed queer advocate and sex educator Max Hovey comes NO FATS, NO FEMS: A Guide to Queer Empathy and Unpacking Prejudice (on sale May 19, 2026; $19.99; HarperOne), the essential modern guide that dissects the exclusionary rhetoric often found in queer spaces and offers a revolutionary framework for fostering understanding, self-reflection, and community unity.

Through personal anecdotes, interviews with 21 trailblazing voices, and a sharp critique of internalized homophobia, racism, transphobia, and body image issues, Hovey sheds light on the challenges queer individuals face both within and outside their community. NO FATS, NO FEMS also celebrates the resilience, diversity, and beauty of queer identities, offering actionable steps to foster empathy and create a more inclusive future.

    NO FATS, NO FEMS explores:

    • The role of race, class, and identity in shaping prejudice within queer spaces.
    • How historical and cultural shifts have influenced modern queer thought.
    • The impact of internalized homophobia and body image struggles.
    • Tools for fostering inclusion, sexual liberation, and non-conformity.
    • How to cultivate pride, empathy, and community for a kinder future.

NO FATS, NO FEMS is more than a book—it's a call to action for anyone invested in creating a more compassionate and equitable world."

  • 430: Anjelah Johnson-Reyes and Ugly Baby
    2026/05/10

Anjelah Johnson-Reyes! Comedian! Actor! Podcaster! Friend! Delight! More!

We have a great chat and you can have a great listen!

Anjelah's 7th comedy special, "Anjelah Johnson-Reyes: Ugly Baby" (a self-financed and self-produced special where she makes her directorial debut) is out today, May 10, 2026 starting at 12PM PDT / 2PM CDT on her YouTube channel!

From the special's press release, the show is "a dynamic hour of standup that blends humor and heart, exploring ever-evolving family dynamics, embracing her current stage of life, and the grand adventure of becoming a first-time mom in her later years.

Following the success of her last two specials, 'Say I Won't' (over 8.6M views and counting) and 'Technically Not Stalking' (over 3.1M views and counting), it only makes sense that Anjelah also brings her 7th special to YouTube to continue making her comedy available to fans all over the world. The platform has been a home for Anjelah for over 20 years, ever since her 'Nail Salon' joke went viral.

At the core of the special is Anjelah's journey into motherhood in her 40s. Using her natural wit and charm, she opens up about personal struggles with fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum life, while touching on the universal themes of relationships, generational shifts, and fighting people on airplanes. Anjelah's special is anchored in her relatability – you can't help but feel that she is your cool Tia commiserating with you on everything.

Ahead of the new special, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes shares:
'I'm grateful that I've been able to do this 7 times. My boobs may be falling lower but at least my career continues to reach new heights, all thanks to my loyal fans that have been riding with me for so long. I hope you enjoy my most vulnerable hour yet!'

Filmed live across two sold-out shows at the historic El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, the special is a co-production between her Laugh On Beat production company and 800 Pound Gorilla. The special was directed by Anjelah Johnson-Reyes and executive produced by Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Manwell Reyes, Stephen Gordon Walker, and Jordan Levy.

Anjelah is one of the most successful stand-up comedians today with six comedy specials streaming on various platforms and selling out theaters across the world. Her 7th comedy special serves as the capstone to her largely successful "The Family Reunion" stand-up comedy tour, which spanned 100+ shows in major theaters across the US in 2025–2026. Over the course of the tour she sold over 200,000 tickets including two sold out shows at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, 4 sold out shows at The Grove of Anaheim, a sold out show at Smart Financial Centre in Houston, TX, and a sold out show at The Ryman in Nashville, TN.

Born and raised in San Jose, California, and of Mexican and Native American descent, Anjelah has guest starred on shows such as Life & Beth, Superstore, The Shield, Ugly Betty, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Her film roles include Enough Said, Our Family Wedding, and Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. Most recently, Anjelah joined Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross in the Amazon
Prime feature, Candy Cane Lane. In February 2024, she returned for the second season of the Hulu original series, Life & Beth, and also hosted the 8-episode Tubi original series, My Crazy Quince, which premiered in May 2024.

Anjelah published her first memoir titled, Who Do I Think I Am?: Stories of Chola Wishes and Caviar Dreams, in March 2022. She also recently launched her new comedy and mental health podcast, Funjelah, where Anjelah and her guests recount the things that they are grateful for and dive deep into how those gratitudes affect their lives.

Based out of Nashville and Los Angeles, Anjelah lives with her husband Manwell, their daughter Rosie,
    and their dog Banzo."

    Enjoy!

  • 431: Matt Koff and Cat Man
    2026/05/15
Matt Koff! Comedian! Writer! Friend! Delight! More! Matt is a very funny comedian friend! We have a great chat and you can have a great listen! Then tonight you can watch his new special! Here's some more information about that from the press release that says it better than I ever could: Tonight: Cat Man Premiering on YouTube May 15th at 8pm ET, 2026 Tuesday: NYC Release Viewing Party Tuesday May 19th at Littlefield Any time: READ THE DEADLINE EXCLUSIVE Emmy-Winning writer for the Daily Show, and winner of New York's Funniest Stand Up 2023, Matt Koff is excited to announce the YouTube release of his second comedy hour, Cat Man, May 15th with a premiere at 8pm with Koff attending; he will be in the chat. Said Koff, "I'm excited to share my special with the broader audience of YouTube. If this special doesn't bring about world peace, nothing will." Cat Man is an hour of fresh stand-up material from the Comedy Cellar regular about divorce, middle-age and cats. Koff believes there is a real bias against men with cats. He says "People love cats, but men with cats make people uncomfortable. Including me. I'm a man with a cat and I'm creeped out by myself!" The special is also a reprieve for Koff from his main subject of joke-writing at the Daily Show: Donald Trump. He says "It was nice to do an entire special that doesn't mention the president, whomever he may be. And judging from the state of the world, this could very well be my last comedy special, so I'm excited to get it out there." He added, "I will still be touring doomsday bunkers though." Cat Man was shot at The Comedy Cellar with some of Matt Koff's long-time Daily Show colleagues including director David Paul Meyer, producer Asad Bokhari, and lighting director George Countas, fresh off his win as New York's top Pedro Pascal lookalike. Art Director Becca Gialanella, also a Daily Show colleague, transformed the Cellar's Village Underground into a 1970s lounge. There are a number of other comics from his 23 years in the biz, including Jon Stewart himself (spoiler), that also make a guest appearance. Matt Koff had always dreamed of performing at the Comedy Cellar. He says "It took me years to get an audition there and I was so bitter about not getting in, sometimes I would walk past the Cellar and hiss at the club. Now I get to perform there and hiss at the audience when they don't like a joke." More About Matt Koff: Matt Koff is a Brooklyn-based stand-up comic and veteran Emmy-Winning TV writer working at The Daily Show for the last 13 years. His debut comedy album, WHO'S MY LITTLE GUY?, is out on 800 Pound Gorilla Records. As a stand-up, Matt has appeared on Comedy Central, WNYC, WFMU, and The History Channel, which is how you know he's smart. Matt has also written for The Onion and The White House Correspondents' Dinner hosted by Trevor Noah. He won the title of 'New York's Funniest Stand Up' in 2023 and co-created the Twitter sensation TrumpComedyNerd, which was called one of the 207 Top Comedy Moments of 2010s by Vulture. • 427: Jonathan Van Halem and Hot Gossip
    2026/04/23

Jonathan Van Halem! Comedian! Friend! Delight! More!

You can follow him on Substack and check out his tour dates at Punchup Live and you can listen to this delightful conversation we have right here right now!

Also, here's some information about Jonathan from Jonathan's very website:

"Hi, my name Jonathan van Halem. I'm a stand-up comedian based in Brooklyn, NY. I currently work at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

I host a great stand up show called Hot Gossip. It frequently sells out, and it's been recommended by the New York Times (ever heard of it?). I've performed on some of New York's best showcases, like 50 First Jokes, Newcomers at the Bell House, and One Liner Madness.

I have many clips that have done very well online, like my set on the live show for Depths of Wikipedia, and my Top Straightest Moments of 2022/2023/2024. My rant against AMC A-List was named one of Vulture's Best Comedy Shorts of June 2024. I also made this fun, semi-viral video about Chappell Roan.

Writing-wise, I did a trial run as a Clickhole contributor in 2023, in which I sold exactly one headline, but shortlisted 17 others (email me and I'll show ya). I've also been in McSweeneys once.

When I'm not doing comedy, I'm patiently waiting for the New York Mets to win the World Series. My favorite Family Guy character is Stewie."

He's funny and nice and good and I hope you enjoy our chat!
