  • Exhausting People-Pleasing | Understanding Your Survival Strategies
    2026/08/16

People Pleasing Isn’t a Flaw: How It Starts, What It Costs

Peg McDermott explores people pleasing as a learned survival strategy rooted in early environments where safety or love felt conditional, sharing how she developed it in a volatile home with an alcoholic, raging father and a mother who abused prescription medication.

She explains why people pleasing persists even with insight—because it’s a nervous system pattern with real payoffs like approval, control, and avoiding disapproval—while quietly costing self-respect, boundaries, identity, sleep, and creating resentment and loneliness.

Peg invites listeners to assess what the pattern is costing them now and imagine a week where their needs matter too. She offers two small experiments: pausing before answering requests (“Let me check and get back to you”) and noticing whose voice drives the urge to please. She also mentions a free “What’s Your Limiting Belief Pattern?” quiz linked in the description.

  • Welcome to Break Free Live True: Helping Women Heal Self-Sabotage
    2026/06/07

Welcome to the very first episode of the Break Free. Live True. Podcast.

Have you ever wondered why you keep getting in your own way?

Maybe you push away people who genuinely care about you. Maybe you talk yourself out of opportunities you really want. Maybe you set goals, only to abandon them weeks later and wonder what’s wrong with you.

The truth is, you’re probably not lazy, weak, unmotivated, or broken.

Many of the patterns that hold us back were learned long ago as ways to protect ourselves, fit in, avoid rejection, or stay safe. The problem is that what once helped us survive may now be keeping us stuck.

On the Break Free. Live True. Podcast, we’ll explore the hidden beliefs, unconscious patterns, and self-sabotaging behaviors that prevent us from becoming who we’re meant to be. We’ll talk about people-pleasing, perfectionism, procrastination, self-doubt, boundaries, confidence, identity, and the stories we carry about ourselves.

As a certified life coach, I’ve helped women uncover the root causes behind these struggles and begin creating lasting change. My goal isn’t to give you hype, empty motivation, or guru-style advice. It’s to help you understand why you do what you do and provide practical, honest steps you can take to move forward.

If you’re ready to stop settling, start trusting yourself, and live more fully in alignment with who you truly are, you’re in the right place.

Subscribe and join us as we uncover the hidden ways we get in our own way—and learn how to break free and live true.
