A lifetime as Boomers has resulted in more than a few encounters with the police. All minor traffic offenses, of course—but in true Boomers on the Edge fashion, the stories are anything but ordinary!

Ron kicks things off with a story from the 1980s involving a multi-million-dollar business proposal that had to be delivered across town. Back then, proposals weren’t emailed—they were printed, bound, and delivered the old-fashioned way. After delays from the pricing committee, Ron finds himself printing the proposal at the last minute and attempting to make a 60-minute drive in, well… 45 minutes!

The result? A run-in with the police followed by a hilarious court appearance that has become legendary.

Then Kenn shares two of his many police encounters. First, there’s the time he decides that at 2:00 AM, with practically nobody on the road, it might be perfectly reasonable to drive down the middle of a divided highway instead of, you know, his actual lane.

What could possibly go wrong?

In his second story, Kenn gets pulled over and becomes so nervous that when the officer asks for his driver’s license, he accidentally hands him his credit card instead. His two teenage children sitting in the backseat? They erupt in laughter.

The University of Michigan recently announced a new pass/fail grading system for incoming freshmen, saying the goal is to help first-year students acclimate to the demands of college and let intrinsic motivation guide their academic journey.

That gets Kenn and Ron thinking: What happened to the way Boomers learned to deal with pressure?

Kenn remembers his parents paying him a dollar for every A in elementary school—but being concerned when he brought home a bad citizenship grade.

Ron looks back at being a college freshman in 1977, when 18 was still the legal drinking age and nobody was worried about creating an “easy on-ramp” to college life.

The Boomers didn’t get participation trophies, pass/fail grades, or much of a transition period. You showed up, figured it out, dealt with the pressure—and sometimes you succeeded and sometimes you failed.

So is today’s approach better for students, or are we simply raising a generation that is less prepared to deal with failure and pressure?

Growing up in the 1970s meant figuring out life with limited information, plenty of imagination, and absolutely no internet to clear things up. In this episode, Kenn shares a coming‑of‑age misunderstanding so perfectly innocent it could only happen in that era.

At 13, Kenn was one of the bigger kids on
his little league team. One of the “coaches”—really just a 17‑year‑old who hung
around—liked to brag about his experiences with his girlfriend. One day, he
told Kenn he had “oral sex.” Kenn, unfamiliar with the term, interpreted it
literally: they just talked about it. To
him, it sounded respectful, mature, even admirable. He was so impressed by this
“good guy” behavior that he briefly considered telling his parents about it.

Inspired, Kenn began practicing what he
thought “oral sex” meant—speaking in a suave, romantic tone, the kind of
“pillow talk” he’d heard late‑night radio hosts use on their slow‑jam shows. He
wanted to be ready in case he ever needed those skills.

It’s old-school, back-to-school time on Boomers on the Edge as guest host Randy shares a hilarious childhood memory of 1970s fashion, family values, and a very different definition of manliness.

With a new school year approaching, Randy’s mom decides it’s time for a fashionable wardrobe update. She proudly picks out a matching pair of purple bell-bottom pants and a stylish wide-collar shirt—an outfit Randy isn't exactly thrilled to wear. Nevertheless, he survives the shopping trip and returns home with his new look in tow.

Back at the house, Randy finds his dad and great uncle changing the brakes on a car in the backyard. Eager to show off her son's fashionable new outfit, his mom suggests that Randy go change and model it for them. The reaction? Pure 1970s. Barely looking up from his work, Randy’s dad quips, “I didn’t see a sign that said girls allowed.” Randy’s mom is less than amused, while Randy quietly retreats to change into blue jeans and a T-shirt. When he returns, his dad smiles and says, “Hi Randy!”

The family certainly had its own unique view of 1970s manliness.

Randy follows up with another unforgettable story—this time about his grandfather attending one of Randy’s wrestling matches. So invested in his grandson's success, Grandpa climbed down from the stands during the match and began demonstrating how Randy could break his opponent’s arm. The referee promptly threw him out.

Ron shares another unbelievable business story from the 1990s.

Back when Detroit Red Wings games at Joe Louis Arena were the hottest ticket in town, Ron invited several executives from one of Detroit’s Big Three automakers to a game in his company’s corporate suite. One executive and his wife were new to Detroit, and she was nervous about visiting downtown, so Ron personally promised to make sure they had a safe evening.

While Ron escorted the VP and his wife, team member Harry brought two executives known for their hard-partying ways. Before long, the pair started an argument with guests in the neighboring suite—rumored to be owned by the mafia. Ron quickly smoothed things over and switched hosting duties, asking Harry to take care of the VP and his wife.

When the game looked decided, the VP and his wife left early with Harry. An hour later, after the game ended, Ron headed to the parking garage and was stunned to find the VP and his wife still standing there—freezing cold and covered in icicles.

"Where's Harry?" Ron asked.

They pointed across the garage just as Harry ran by in a panic, yelling, “I can’t find my car! I can’t find my car!”

As Harry raced by yet again, the two intoxicated executives suddenly yelled, "There's his car!"

Having arrived with Harry earlier, they recognized it immediately.

Without hesitation, they took off running, tackled Harry before he could make another lap around the garage and finally reunited him with the vehicle he had been searching for all night.

Needless to say, that was the last time the VP and his wife went to Joe Louis Arena!

Kenn joins Ron and guest host Randy to share one of the funniest and most memorable stories from their family — the tale of their grandfather's determination to keep romance alive well into his senior years, even as dementia began to take its toll.

The first clue came at Grandma's funeral. As friends offered condolences and assured him that "she'll be waiting for you in heaven," Grandpa quickly replied, "I hope she can wait a little longer!" His family soon realized he wasn't planning on slowing down anytime soon.

At a holiday gathering, Grandpa proudly told Ron that he attended every dance at the Senior Center he could. Beaming with excitement, he shared that at a recent dance, one particular lady had put her leg between his. Apparently, Grandpa still had game.

As the years passed, dementia began affecting his memory and behavior. He often wandered off in search of his car dealer, convinced he had important business to attend to. Yet despite his declining mental faculties, his interest in the opposite sex never seemed to fade.

Eventually, Grandpa moved into a care facility, where his frequent escape attempts continued. Then came the moment that would become family legend. During a visit from his daughters, Grandpa unexpectedly demonstrated that his sense of manhood was still very much intact—leaving everyone shocked and speechless. A nurse calmly explained that this behavior is not uncommon among men living with dementia.

When Ron later told Kenn and Randy about the incident, he summed it up perfectly: "I'm proud to know that in my family Mr. Happy is the last to go!"

It's a hilarious, heartfelt, and true story that proves some instincts survive just about everything.

Soccer wasn't part of everyday life when Boomers Kenn and Ron were growing up, so when their own kids wanted to play, they approached the game with a mix of curiosity, skepticism, and humor. With the World Cup underway, they share some of their funniest family soccer memories.

Ron tells the story of his five-year-old son, who really wanted to play American football. Since he was too young for tackle football, Ron signed him up for soccer instead. At his very first practice, his son enthusiastically tackled a group of kids while trying to get the ball. Thinking now he might actually like soccer, he told his dad he had simply "tripped." The coach wasn't amused, and after one too many "accidental" trips, Ron warned his son that one more "trip" and he was done. His soccer career ended after a single practice.

When she finally scored her first goal—thanks to a lucky bounce off her body—she proudly announced that she had accomplished her goal and was ready to quit.
