In this special edition of Weird True Crime, Gina sits down with Whitney St. Andre (co-host of *Navigating Advocacy*) and Eric Carter Landin (host of *True Consequences*) to talk about AdvocacyCon — a one-of-a-kind conference built for families of the missing and murdered, happening September 11–13 at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Eric shares his deeply personal story of fighting for justice for his brother Jacob, who was murdered in 1987, and how decades of being failed by the legal system drove him to found the nonprofit Angel's Voices Silenced No More and create a space where families don't have to navigate their grief alone. Whitney recounts how she and her co-host Melissa stumbled into advocacy through the Brandon Lawson case and eventually teamed up with Eric to build AdvocacyCon from the ground up — a conference designed not for content creators or entertainment, but for the families themselves.

This year's conference features a powerful lineup, including a keynote from Nicole Schmidt (Gabby Petito's mother), sessions on missing and murdered Indigenous relatives, investigative genetic genealogy, private forensic testing, wrongful convictions, and new law enforcement–led panels requested by attendees. With on-site licensed mental health clinicians, therapy dogs, a "Wall of Hope" art project, a trauma writing workshop, and intentional shared meals, AdvocacyCon goes beyond education to foster genuine community and long-lasting support networks. Eric and Whitney also discuss scholarships available through the Impact Advocacy Foundation, a new virtual attendance option, and their ambitious future plans — including a mountain grief retreat and potential expansion into domestic violence and human trafficking advocacy.
