Welcome to The Bondi Patrol Podcast; a conversation with the people who volunteer their time to keep Bondi beach safe for swimmers, run the Bondi Surf Bathers' Life Saving Club as well as the Bondi community who embrace & support our club, and our values – I’m your host Glen Frost, I’m a Volunteer surf life saver at Bondi, and each episode I’ll be meeting with a member of the club, or from the Australian surf life saving community, or from in and around Bondi.

We exist to save lives, create great Australians and build better communities, and we couldn’t do that without our 1500 volunteers and an engaged and supportive Bondi community, so thank you, we salute you.

The Bondi Patrol Podcast is owned by The Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club. All advertising and sponsorship revenues are paid directly to the Bondi SBLSC.     James Bassam: Chief Remote Pilot & Manager of the Australian UAV Service – part of SLS NSW

    James leads a team of 350+ staff and manages 200+ UAV assets - coordinating over 100,000 flights each year to deliver critical public safety, emergency response and commercial UAV operations, including NSW Rural Fire Service operations.

    UAV stands for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. It refers to an aircraft that flies without an onboard human pilot. Instead, it is either controlled remotely by a pilot on the ground or flies autonomously using onboard computers, GPS, and sensors. It is more commonly known as a drone.

    Steve "Bluey" Larnach is the President of the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club and a dedicated community volunteer. A second-generation local, he has been involved with the club since the 1980s, serving in various roles including Patrol Captain and earning life membership in 2017.

    In this episode, Steve talks about life in "The Big Chair" as he calls the Presidents role, lessons for new surf life savers, how to be a real leader in the surf club, and some great tips on fundraising!
