  • Shein's Hong Kong IPO; Investors Bet on Hair Loss Treatments
    2026/08/30

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s annual economic symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming featured Kevin Warsh’s first speech as chairman. Warsh used his keynote speech to hammer home a message that curbing inflation is the central bank’s top priority. While parts of the speech served to double down on his stated determination to avoid offering guidance to financial markets on the direction of interest rates, Warsh did finally provide some insight into how he views the economy. That helped relieve some frustration among investors and added drama to the Fed’s next policy meeting.

Also this weekend, President Donald Trump announced he was moving to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America, escalating his clash with Canada after trade negotiations between the two nations collapsed. Trump said the move would take place “effective immediately” and the Interior Department had 30 days to change the name in federal databases and materials.

On today's show, Bloomberg This Weekend hosts Christina Ruffini and Bailey Lipschultz speak with:

    - Former Trump Senior Economic adviser Stephen Moore, who says inflation remains too high for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates.

    - Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Illinois), on his criticism of the administration’s trade fight with Canada.

    - Bloomberg News Consumer Finance Reporter Lisa Du, on clothing company Shein heading toward a Hong Kong listing at a valuation of about $26.5 billion, roughly a quarter of its 2022 peak.

    - Bloomberg News Biotech & Healthcare Reporter Avalon Pernell, on the drugmakers developing a new generation of hair loss treatments, including lotions, pills and longer-lasting injections, targeting a market of tens of millions of Americans.

Plus, Christina, Bailey, and Lisa Mateo play Pointed: The News Quiz for Risk Takers.

For more conversations like this, watch and listen to Bloomberg This Weekend live on Saturdays and Sundays from 7AM-10AM ET. Watch on Bloomberg Television, listen on Bloomberg Radio and stream the show live on the Bloomberg Business app and Bloomberg.com/video.

(Correct: Corrects our reporter's remarks at :34:00-:34:35 to specify that based on current publicly available data, the new generation of hair loss drugs have not shown the same side effects as previous medications.)

Meta agreed to pay as much as $18 billion to resolve claims by state attorneys general over social media safety and privacy, and will also put new guardrails on its platforms.
