Creighton basketball is at a crossroads after a brutal 16-18 season, marking their worst record in over a decade—and the end of Greg McDermott’s legendary 16-year tenure. With four key starters gone, including top scorer Josh Dix and playmaker Nik Graves, the Bluejays are rebuilding fast. But hope is rising: Austin Swartz returns as a scoring leader, Jasen Green brings rebounding dominance, and Jackson McAndrew could explode back into form if healthy. Freshman phenom Katrelle Harmon and transfers like Oswin Erhunmwunse and Brody Robinson add firepower. Now, under new head coach Alan Huss—McDermott’s former assistant—the real test begins: can this roster click quickly enough to erase the past and ignite a comeback?

UConn men’s basketball faces one of the toughest non-conference schedules ever, battling Final Four teams like Illinois, Arizona, and Michigan, plus powerhouses Duke, Virginia, Ohio State, and Kansas — even their exhibition games are stacked with Syracuse, Michigan State, and Purdue. Conference play offers some scheduling relief with no three-game road or home stretches, but ends with a brutal stretch: Marquette on the road, then Providence and St. John’s at home — both expected to be strong under new coaching. They close on the road against Xavier. Their conference opener? Hosting Georgetown right after a grueling Virginia showdown — and with Christmas Eve looming, can they stay sharp? Meanwhile, UConn football heads to Southern Miss for a crucial road game Saturday night, both teams 1-1, kickoff at 7 PM ET.

Kevin Willard’s Villanova is already rewriting the script: one season after taking over, they’re back in the NCAA Tournament—and ESPN projects them as a top-four Big East team even in their worst-case scenario. With a revamped roster and no key returnees, Willard’s rebuilding effort is already showing promise, aiming for 22 wins and another March Madness trip. The ceiling? 26 wins and a Round of Thirty-Two run. For a program that missed the tournament three straight years, this turnaround feels like Villanova magic returning faster than anyone expected.
