The Coin in the Fish’s Mouth: Why Kingdom Giving Is Never Forced

A foundation teaching for Kingdom Wealth Creators

The Story That Changes How We See Money In Matthew 17:24–27, tax collectors approach Peter and ask whether Jesus pays the temple tax. Jesus already knows the question before Peter even speaks. He asks Peter a piercing question: do earthly kings collect tribute from their own children, or from strangers? Peter answers correctly — from strangers.

Jesus makes the point that as the Son, He is technically exempt. And yet He pays it anyway. Not because He’s forced to, but so as not to offend. He tells Peter to go fishing, and in the mouth of the very first fish he catches, he’ll find a coin — enough to cover the tax for both of them.

This is the picture I want you to hold onto: the tax collectors represent the world’s system — compulsory, impersonal, extracted whether you’re willing or not. But Jesus doesn’t operate that way with His own. He doesn’t garnish. He doesn’t send a bill.

He provides — supernaturally, specifically, and in advance of the need — and He invites participation rather than demanding it.

Intimacy Before Increase Here’s the piece most financial teaching skips: the tithe was never meant to be the starting point of your relationship with God’s provision. Fellowship is the starting point. The tithe is simply what grows out of it. “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” — James 4:8 “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” — Isaiah 26:3 Before Peter ever went fishing for that coin, he had spent months walking with Jesus, watching Him, trusting Him, being formed by proximity to Him.

The miracle in the fish’s mouth wasn’t a transaction — it was the natural overflow of a relationship already established. That’s the order I teach my community: presence produces provision. Not the other way around.

When giving flows from intimacy rather than obligation, something shifts internally. You stop asking “how much do I have to give” and start asking “what does gratitude look like this paycheck.

  • 15| Why Tithe First? What Christian Women Must Do With Income, Savings, and Debt to Build Wealth
    2026/08/31
The First Tenth: How Putting God First Can Transform the Way You Build Income

What happens when you stop treating God as the one who gets what is left—and intentionally put Him first in your income?

In this episode of Biblical Wealth for Women, we unpack Genesis 4:4–7 and Abel’s offering to uncover 3 kingdom wealth lessons:

    1. Tithe to God first — build your financial system around honoring God before spending.
    2. Stop comparing — your financial assignment is different, so your wealth system doesn't have to look like anyone else's.
    3. Trust God as your Source — your giving and kingdom service are acts of faith, not transactions designed to manipulate God into rewarding you.

Learn how putting God first can help you shift from simply earning and spending money to stewarding income intentionally, pursuing debt freedom, and building multiple streams with wisdom and purpose.

    Your Faith-in-Action Step

Before your next income is spent, ask:

What belongs to God? What needs to be protected? What debt needs to be eliminated? And what can I build?

    Tithe → Put God first

Debt reduction → Increase financial capacity

    Savings → Create protection

Income growth → Increase capacity to build wealth

Multiple streams → Create additional sources of income

Legacy → Turn income into lasting wealth

  • 14| How to Grow your Income free of The exhaustion of stewarding marriage, motherhood, marketplace ministry.
    2026/08/24

Welcome back to Biblical Wealth for Women — the podcast where I help women grow their income using multiple streams, God’s way, without compromising their faith in God.

I’m so glad you’re here today, because we’re going to sit at the feet of one of the boldest women in Scripture — Esther — and pull out a wealth-building framework that I call The Three O’s: Opposition, Opportunity, Overflow.

If you’ve been telling the same money story for years — the story of scarcity, of survival mode, of “we’ve never had much and we probably never will” — today is the day we start rewriting it.

In our walk with God, we have to learn to hold two clocks at once. Chronos is calendar time — the nine-to-five, the bills due on the first, the years that feel like they’re passing us by.

Kairos is God’s appointed time — the divine moment when everything you’ve stewarded quietly suddenly opens a door. Esther wasn’t just in the palace on Chronos time. She was there “for such a time as this” — Kairos time. When you’re building your income, growing a business, negotiating a raise, or believing God for multiple streams of income, you are not just clocking hours. You are stewarding a Kairos assignment.

And Psalm 23 reminds us that God prepares a table — an overflow — even in the presence of our enemies. Not after the enemies are gone. In the midst of them. That means your overflow does not have to wait until every opposition disappears.

Your table can be set now.
