Beyondering finally land their long awaited interview with Peter Rollins to see what faith looks like through the lens of a philosopher.

This is a way of seeing, a discipline that helps us question our questions, understand how we understand and allow us to see how we see. Peter Rollins is a philosopher who utilises psychoanalytic theory and in this episode helps us reflect on why we believe what we believe.

To access more of Pete’s work check out peterrollins.com. There you’ll find information about upcoming events and books – including his most recent book The Divine Magician.

What’s emerging? What forms and shapes of sacred community are in the process of being birthed but are not yet? Emergent thinkers are those with such a lens that they walk into this future with optimism and without fear. Desha Ubeda and Phillip Clayton are two such people. Matt and Lucas speak with them and consider what forms, practices and approaches of sacred community will emerge in the coming years.

Deshna is the director of ProgressiveChristianity.org. It’s a website worth checking out for resources, articles and liturgies.

Come on a journey with Lucas and Matt exploring the journey of growth and transformation. Alexander Shaia – psychologist, anthropologist and spiritual director, help us see what faith (and indeed scripture) looks like when we adopt this as our primary lens.

Specifically, he has developed a resource known as Quadratos – the name he has given to the discovery and creation of an ancient four-fold tool to aid the journey of growth and transformation. You can check it out at quadratos.com.

For further exploration check out his book “Heart and Mind: The Four-Gospel Journey for Radical Transformation.”

We take a breather from our season theme of lenses, to hear from some of our local prophets. In this special bonus episode we offer you a showcase of artists who have featured on our podcast from a live event we held earlier this year. In it we asked our poets and prophets to reflect on the role their art played in their lives and in the world. It features 2 performance poets in Joel McKerrow & Cameron Semmens as well as hip-hop artist Dylan Joel.

Matt and Lucas are joined by Robin Meyers, American pastor of 30 years, peace activist, social justice professor and author of seven books. He helped us adopt the lens of resistance and enabled us to consider a faith that stands up to, and stands against if necessary, the systems and structures that deny life and human flourishing.

You can (and should!) find Robin’s community Mayflower Congregational Church at www.mayflowerucc.org including past sermons. His books include The Underground Church: Reclaiming the Subversive Way of Jesus, Saving Jesus from the Church: How to stop worship Christ and start following Jesus and his most recent; Spiritual Defiance: Building a Beloved Community of Resistance. Both Lucas and Matt highly recommend these!
