On September 9th, 1984, twenty-four-year-old Brenda Maureen Hackett made a telephone call to her mother from a payphone outside the Safeway on West Dallas Street in Conroe, Texas. The following afternoon, a passing train spotted a body in Contrary Creek near FM 2854.It was Brenda. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled.Three days later, Brenda's dark-green 1967 Ford Mustang was found abandoned back in Conroe. Her purse and shoes were still inside. The case remained unresolved for decades. But investigators had preserved biological evidence from Brenda's body.Modern DNA testing eventually identified the man connected to that evidence:Jerry Michael Ward.Ward was a convicted kidnapper and murderer who, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, had been paroled to Montgomery County only months before Brenda's death. He died in 1985.In 2012—twenty-eight years after Brenda was murdered—Montgomery County Cold Case detectives linked Ward to her killing through DNA.Episode 8 of Behind The Pine Curtain examines Brenda's final known phone call, the mysterious journey of her Mustang, the discovery at Contrary Creek, and the evidence that waited decades to identify her killer.Behind The Pine Curtain True Crime from Montgomery County, Texas.#BehindThePineCurtain #BrendaMaureenHackett #BrendaHackett #JerryMichaelWard #ContraryCreek #ConroeTX #MontgomeryCountyTX #TexasTrueCrime #ColdCase #SolvedColdCase #DNA #TrueCrimePodcastCredits:Music: Anxiety by Soundridemusic NoCopyright Tense Cinematic BackgroundMusic: True Crime by Soundridemusic No Copyright Mystery Detective True Crime ...Music: Power Music FactoryChannel URL : / powermusicfactory
