This week I'm going back to the archives. Early in my career, as a brand-new assistant, I said yes to a service I had no business doing, on a client I should've turned away. She muscled me through the whole appointment, and by the end my fingers were cut up and she ripped the work apart in front of me. I cried. It's one of the hardest lessons I ever learned.
Years later, a different client tried to run the same play. This time, I recognized it immediately, and I made a different choice.
This episode is about the difference between operating from desperation and operating from security, and why turning away money can be one of the most powerful things you do for your business.
In this episode:
- The early client story I've only ever told in private, until now
- Why I said yes to everything when I was starting out, and what it cost me
- The moment years later when I recognized the same red flags and chose differently
- Why I see myself as a chef, not a cook, in my own chair
- The difference between money that builds you and money that costs you your integrity
