On this International Day of Peace, Be the Peace continues with a conversation about what it means not simply to reduce violence, but to actively build peace.

In Part Two of Josh King’s conversation with Alive founder and Executive Director Angelo Mante, the story moves from the beginnings of Alive to what it looks like to put nonviolence into practice.

Angelo reflects on the creation and growth of the Peacemaker Academy, the changes Alive has seen in Fort Wayne Community Schools, and why reducing violence is not the same thing as building peace. He and Josh explore Dr. King’s vision of Beloved Community, the Six Principles of Kingian Nonviolence, and what it means to embrace nonviolence not simply as a tactic, but as a way of life.

The conversation closes with the source of Angelo’s greatest hope: young people discovering that they are not simply leaders of the future—they are leaders right now.

Ten years ago, the murder of Angelo Mante’s cousin Nick changed the direction of his life.

In the series premiere of Be the Peace, host Josh King sits down with Angelo, founder and Executive Director of Alive Community Outreach, for the first of a two-part conversation about the experiences that brought him back home to Fort Wayne and ultimately led to the creation of Alive.

Their conversation explores violence and nonviolence, the roots beneath violence in our communities, Kingian Nonviolence, and the pursuit of Beloved Community.
