Melanie Cox thought she had thyroid cancer. Sitting at a window working out what she'd actually built, she realized she had left her children everything worldly and almost nothing spiritual. So she wrote a book — five copies, just for her kids. The publicist refused to print five. It became a number one.

In this conversation with Dr. Torie, Melanie talks about being raised by a
mother who spent her life trying to die, about lying on the floor by her
mother's bed as a small child with a stuffed animal and a joke to keep her alive one more night, and about what it took to stop that inheritance from moving one more generation.

It is also, unexpectedly, a very funny conversation about forgiveness.
