Why Are Your Running Shoes So Heavy?

What if your running shoes aren’t really the heavy part?

In this episode of the Be Simply Fit Podcast, we explore the invisible weight that so many people carry into every workout. For many, it’s not a lack of motivation, discipline, or willpower that makes exercise difficult—it’s years of emotional baggage, limiting beliefs, past failures, fear of judgment, negative self-talk, or the feeling that they’ve “fallen off the wagon” too many times.

Exercise isn’t just a physical challenge. It’s often a mental and emotional one.

We’ll talk about how our past experiences shape our relationship with movement, why starting an exercise program can feel overwhelming, and how the stories we tell ourselves become the heaviest weight we carry. You’ll discover why consistency is built in the mind before it’s ever seen in the body and how small victories can begin to loosen the grip of old habits and self-doubt.

Whether you’re just beginning your fitness journey, starting over after years away, or wondering why you struggle to stay consistent, this episode will help you understand that the real challenge may not be your body—it may be the unseen burdens you’ve been carrying all along.

It’s time to stop asking why your shoes feel so heavy… and start asking what you’ve been carrying inside them.

Join us as we unpack the mental barriers to exercise and discover how healing the mind can transform the body—one step at a time.

  • How To Develop Good Habits
    2025/04/14

Developing good habits is essential for building a successful, healthy, and fulfilling life. Habits shape our daily actions and, over time, determine the direction of our lives—whether we’re growing stronger or falling behind. Good habits, such as exercising regularly, eating well, managing time effectively, or practicing gratitude, create a solid foundation for personal growth and resilience. They reduce the need for constant decision-making, making it easier to stay consistent and focused on long-term goals. Ultimately, good habits empower us to become the best version of ourselves by turning intentional actions into automatic routines. Listen in as Jim shares his experiences and struggles in his journey to develop good exercise and healthy eating habits.

  • I Only Have 20 Minutes To Workout
    2025/04/03

I don’t know where anyone gets the idea that a timelimit has to be placed on a workout. A workout needs to be efficient for sure but, I think what’s important in the quality of your workout, not just the quantity. When doing some high intensity interval training you would like to do 20-60 seconds of high intensity followed by 1-3 minutes of rest. Typically a HIIT workout should last 10-30 minutes. Join Jim today as he goes over a few exercises that you can do quickly and easily and remain in good shape when your time is tight and the spirit might be week.
