Episode 147. Shawn Rivera is an American singer, songwriter, producer, and percussionist, widely recognized as a founding member and lead vocalist of the R&B group Az Yet. The group's 1996 self-titled debut album achieved multi-platinum status and featured two platinum singles.

Musical Success: Az Yet's notable hits include "Last Night" and their Grammy-nominated cover of "Hard to Say I'm Sorry," which was a collaboration with producers David Foster and Babyface.

Production and Arrangement: Rivera is an accomplished producer and arranger who served as the lead producer, musician, and guest vocalist on the late Dr. Maya Angelou's final musical album, Caged Bird Songs.

In this episode not only will we discuss these incredible moments in his musical history; but touch on the times before and after these noteworthy events that led to him releasing his new self-titled album, "Shawn Rivera". To give the listener an idea of how incredible this album is, Troy plays snippets of this nine-song offering with Shawn giving a delightful backdrop about each. Both gentlemen were having such and amazing time that three hours had passed before they knew it. Yes, this is a lengthy episode, but definitely worth the listen. The music and conversation were informative and entertaining.

B.Slade’s creative genius extends beyond the recording studio. He was one of the creative directors for Patti LaBelle’s world tours and the Show/BGV programmer for Janet Jackson’s last five global tours and Las Vegas residency. This powerful, genre-bending showcase highlights his vocal mastery, dynamic stagecraft, and signature storytelling.

    Life Artistry

B.Slade has perfected his craft throughout his career, delivering 'Life Artistry' across genres to diverse audiences worldwide. He explains, "Being a 'Life Artist' means I sing about life in its entirety. This includes the natural and the spiritual, crucial elements in balancing our character and faith. Our lives are filled with experiences of humanity, love, loss, and redemption - I sing about whatever piques my interest in life now. Sometimes, that involves my faith, and other times, I sing, dance, and draw inspiration from my experiences as a human being. I incorporate all these elements into my artistry."
