3B Festival organizer, Frankie Scorpion returns to Riffs & Rhythms for an entertaining, honest, and completely unpredictable conversation.

The crew discusses the upcoming 3B Festival, what it really takes to organize a successful independent event, and why building a music community is about much more than making money. From there, the conversation dives into the tattoo world, where Frankie shares the deeply personal stories behind her artwork, her philosophy on tattoo culture, and why she believes every tattoo should tell a meaningful story.

Along the way, they explore entrepreneurship, women in music, parenting, mental health, creativity, and the lessons learned from turning life's challenges into purpose.

Of course, it wouldn't be Riffs & Rhythms without plenty of laughs, unexpected tangents, and the kind of uncensored conversation that feels like hanging out with friends after the show.

  • Picture This: The All-New JNC Drawing Game Debut
    2026/08/20

    Send us Fan Mail

This week on Jams 'N' Cocktails, Brad Brock is joined in the legendary JNC Lounge by Jordyn and Elly for a game-heavy Wednesday night filled with cocktails, questionable artwork, entertainment news, music trivia, and plenty of the usual chaos. The crew kicks things off with the Italian-inspired Bicicletta Cocktail of the Week, made with Campari, dry white wine, club soda, and orange, before catching up on everything from local grocery-store changes and Florida traffic frustrations to the importance of getting out and voting.

Then it's game time. The crew puts a brand-new interactive version of Picture This through its first live test—with the audience serving as willing guinea pigs—before celebrating National Aviation Day with a flying-themed Name That Tune. Jordyn takes over for the latest Jordy Files, Brad delivers some aviation-inspired Midweek Motivation, and everyone heads back to the drawing board for one more hilariously competitive round of Picture This. It's a night of new technology, bad drawings, good guesses, music, laughs, and classic JNC unpredictability.

  • Spin Again: The Life, Death, & Return of the Vinyl Record
    2026/08/13

    Send us Fan Mail

This week, Jams ’N’ Cocktails celebrates National Vinyl Record Day by dropping the needle on the rise, fall, and unlikely rebirth of one of music’s most beloved formats. Brad Brock, Elly, and Captain Cocktail Derek Zugel dig into the history of recorded music, how vinyl records are actually made, why CDs and streaming nearly pushed them into extinction, and why a whole new generation of music fans is falling in love with records all over again.

Of course, this is JNC, so the history lesson is only the beginning. The crew gets hands-on with the ritual of vinyl, spins records from independent artists, tests their musical knowledge in Name That Tune, catches up on entertainment news in The Jordy Files, and mixes up a couple of seriously tasty cocktails along the way. Plus, there’s a vinyl-inspired Midweek Motivation about rediscovering the people, passions, and dreams that may deserve another spin.

  • The Fox is Back - EP 146
    2026/08/11

    Send us Fan Mail

This week on Riffs & Rhythms, Paul Robertson and Kevin McLoughlin welcome Fox Maple back to the show for one of the funniest—and most thought-provoking—episodes yet.

Fox opens up about spending nearly four years creating the record, why some songs have been waiting more than a decade to be released, how life experiences shaped the album's darker tone, and why sometimes you simply have to stop chasing perfection and let the music go.

Along the way, the conversation dives into:

🎵 The making of Last of the Lost
💿 Why vinyl records are making a comeback—and why colored vinyl sells better
🎙️ Recording, producing, and knowing when an album is "finished"
🎸 Playing over 600 live shows and growing as an artist
📻 Landing on Spotify's Release Radar and receiving international airplay
🎪 Local music festivals and supporting original music
😂 And, as always... plenty of hilarious Riffs & Rhythms tangents.

Also in this episodes "Riff or Rhythm?", we put Fox up to review her better half. We review the song "Snake Drive Motherf@!cker" by FRANK BANG & THE SECRET STASH https://youtu.be/jZmIr9xhYkA?si=mfQkI3IlDdgIpFKK

  • What Happens When Passions Collide? Distiller, Author, Musician - Shawn Martin
    2026/08/09

    Send us Fan Mail

Drums and Rums is back — from Key West!

Paul takes the show on the road for a special conversation from Papa’s Pilar Rum Distillery in Key West with distiller, rum enthusiast, musician and newly published author Shawn Martin, who writes under the name Shawn Michael Dean.

Shawn's path to making rum wasn't exactly planned. With a background in marine biology, he came to Key West working as a scuba instructor and boat captain before what was supposed to be a temporary job at a new distillery turned into nearly a decade of making and experimenting with rum.

In this episode, Paul and Shawn dig into how the rum industry has evolved, why rum is often misunderstood, and why the spirit deserves the same appreciation given to bourbon, Scotch and whiskey.

Shawn also takes us inside the creative side of distilling — experimenting with fermentation, different distillation techniques, barrel finishes and small-batch Distillery Reserve releases. And since we're recording at the distillery, we don't just talk about them…we taste a few along the way.

The conversation goes well beyond rum, too.

We explore the history of the building and its connections to old Key West and Ernest Hemingway, the creation of the Hemingway Social Club, Key West's music scene, tiki culture, and Shawn's newest creative adventure: becoming an author.

After nearly 10 years of writing on and off, Shawn recently released his first novel, Coral Bay, under the name Shawn Michael Dean — and he's already thinking about what comes next.

It's rum, science, history, music, writing, Key West and a few good laughs along the way.

In other words, exactly what Drums and Rums is supposed to be:

Where the Backbeats Meet the Spirits.
