Colorado Avalanche gear up for high-stakes season opener against the Los Angeles Kings. Can Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar fire on all cylinders straight out of the gate, or will early-season rust slow them down? With both teams among the NHL’s oldest rosters and the Kings returning with veteran signings like Mats Zuccarello and Corey Perry, questions loom about stamina and leadership in an October showdown.

Hosts break down key lineups, highlight the pressure on Artemi Panarin to drive LA’s offense, and debate whether the Avs can exploit Kings’ defensive vulnerabilities. Insider predictions from the Subtext crew range from nail-biting one-goal games to Avalanche blowouts, while Darcy Kuemper and Forsberg’s performance between the pipes adds intrigue. Plus, the hosts reveal their signature “sound check” songs to capture the energy of the new season. Will the Avalanche set the tone for a dominant campaign?
