What do you know that you are willing to let yourself know?

Sometimes we can be extraordinarily capable—thoughtful, experienced, observant, competent—and still find ourselves looking outside ourselves for permission to trust what we already see.

In this mid-week Wellspring reflection from the Oasis, we sit beside the image of a lamp: something vast living inside a space much smaller than its capacity.

Together, we gently explore the difference between seeking information and permission, the voices that taught us who was allowed to know, the responsibilities we carry without enough agency, and the quiet ways we can unconsciously make our own knowing smaller.

Reclaiming inner authority doesn't mean believing you're always right.

It doesn't mean refusing wisdom, expertise, counsel, or another person's perspective.

It simply means that when another voice enters the room...

you don't have to leave it.

Come sit beside the water.

There is room here for what others know.

There is room for what you don't yet know.

And there is room for you.
