The Atlanta Hawks are reloading for 2026-27 with a bold offseason overhaul, bringing in Luguentz Dort and Ryan Nembhard while parting ways with Tony Bradley and Jonathan Kuminga. With a projected 50-win season or deeper playoff run on the table, the team’s big question is how they’ll handle the frontcourt — but their core of McCollum, Alexander-Walker, Daniels, Johnson, and Okongwu looks primed to deliver. After last year’s Southeast Division title and playoff showdown with the Knicks, this roster has the firepower and depth to finally break through since 2021. The season opener? On the road against Orlando.

Jalen Johnson is skyrocketing to stardom, now ranked the second-best power forward in the NBA — a breakout season averaging 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 7.5 assists has cemented his role as Atlanta’s franchise cornerstone. With Trae Young gone, the Hawks are all-in on Johnson, whose elite athleticism and well-rounded game have stunned the league. While his 35% three-point shooting offers room for growth, pushing it to 38% could elevate his scoring to 25-28 points per game — making him an unstoppable force. The Hawks aren’t chasing other superstars; they’ve got one already, and Johnson’s development shows no signs of slowing. The Eastern Conference better brace itself — this is just the beginning.

Dyson Daniels’ shaky three-point shooting last season—just 18% from deep—threatens his future, especially with a $100M extension looming. After hitting just 10 threes in his first 93 attempts, he turned it around late, draining 10 of 24 in his final 10 games and scoring a season-high 28 points. He credits mental growth for overcoming pressure, while his elite defense (league-leading steals, All-Defensive Second Team) remains a strength. This summer, he’s targeting tough reps to become a consistent offensive weapon as the team brings in shooters. The big question? Can he finally deliver when it matters most—or will his max contract hang in the balance?
