Emergencies can happen with little warning, and being prepared can make all the difference. In this episode of Straight From Rose, Shan Rose discusses what families and communities can do before an emergency happens. From severe weather and power outages to evacuations and unexpected community emergencies, preparation begins with having a plan and knowing where to turn for reliable information.Shan talks about building an emergency kit, creating a family communication plan, preparing children and pets, helping elderly or disabled family members, and understanding what to do if power or cell service is unavailable. The conversation also takes listeners behind the scenes of what local government and emergency-management professionals do when a major incident affects the community, as well as the role elected officials can play in keeping residents informed and connected to available resources.Whether you already have an emergency plan or have never thought about creating one, this episode encourages every listener to ask an important question:If something happened today, would you and your family know what to do?
