  • Life & death in Victorian times - an interview Paul Gambino
    2026/05/21

In this episode we chat to Paul Gambino, author of many books about curiosities, subcultures, oddities and most recently, death & dying (and subsequently life and living) in Victorian times when death was everywhere, living was tough and medical intervention was often more damaging and painful than successful.

In our interview, Paul speaks candidly about his fascination for the strange and often macabre, his collections, and life as an author who just happened to see things a little differently than mainstream society. His book, Beyond the Veil - The Victorian Obsession with Death & Mourning is a masterful collection of tales of illness, torturous treatments and some pretty strange post mortem practices, many which have shaped mourning in modern times.

Paul's book is available here: https://a.co/d/0bTeV4hT or wherever you buy great books.

We hope you enjoy our chat with Paul, as much as we did.

  • Undiscovered Country - death and dying through the eyes of a Palliative Care specialist
    2026/04/22

In this episode we lift the veil on death, dying and advances in palliative care with world-renown expert in the field, Dr David Casarett. We discuss the experience of death, the fears many people share and how advances in our understanding of death can inform a better experience for both the dying and their families.

Talking on the release of his latest book "Undiscovered Country - A Doctor's travel guide to the end of life" Dr David gives us a fresh perspective on dying - something many prefer not to acknowledge and even fewer people care to talk about.

Peppered with entertaining anecdotes, real life situations and informed insight, Dr David's outlook, as shared in his latest book, is enough to put even the most fearful mind at ease.

We hope you enjoy our discussion

  • Reconstruction and horrific trauma in the mortuary
    2026/02/12

In this podcast mortician/embalmer Tracy describes some of the most horrific cases she has seen during her 15-year long career in the mortuary, explaining the measures she went to in order to make the deceased viewable for the family wherever possible and alternative ways to give the family a final goodbye when viewing is not advised.

She also talks about her own traumatic experience when, following the sudden accidental death of her mother, she was denied the chance to say her own goodbyes. It's the reason she does what she does and while not every family of every deceased person will want or need a viewing, Tracy believes that those who do, should be given every chance at making a final connection with their person - even if they are unable to see the body because the trauma and injuries are too great.

This episode is confronting and not for everyone so please exercise your own listening discretion.

  • Sheila and the afterlife
    2026/01/27

Welcome back to a bright, fabulous new year - we start off with an interview with crime writer and forensic handwriting analyst Sheila Lowe who is kinda a 'frequent flyer' when it comes to mediums and tapping into the afterlife.

Sheila's life, career and belief system took a sharp turn after her daughter Jennifer was murdered years ago and her recently publish memoir tells of the events that brought her to realise "there is no death, only of the body".

In this candid interview Sheila talks freely about losing her daughter, as well as her ex-husband and a boyfriend in the years that followed, and how these events have inspired her to lift the curtain on the afterlife and recognise many signs from her loved ones that have passed.

We hope you enjoy our chat with Sheila Lowe.

  • Ending the year with a snip and a chat
    2025/12/16

In this episode we go rogue - freestyling our way through whatever comes to mind - from the strange pre-Christmas funeral industry lull, to the traumatic experience of a haircut that can't decide whether its an overgrown pixie or a bob with a whole lot of undercut attitude - the struggle is real people.

Safe to say, we've been through some stuff in tge last few weeks and knuckling down to a serious and detailed mortuary chat was not really within our scope of capability.

So sit back, relax and let the discussion unfold - we hope you are enjoying December, not wishing it away as many do this busy time of year. We urge you to set your boundaries, do something that makes you smile (like listening to this podcast) and above all, be kind to each other.

    Loving you sic, peeps,

    T&T xx

  • Exploring the UK's most haunted buildings
    2025/11/25

In this episode we chat with Jess, a paranormal investigator who enjoys exploring the bridge between the living and the dead.
Most Saturday nights you'll find Jess and a group of nervous clients meandering through the basements, tunnels and backrooms of some of the creepiest buildings in the UK from court rooms and mansions to creepy council houses and everything in between.
And during her years pursuing this unlikely hobby on communicating with the spirit world, Jess has seen a few things... she's been punched by the Jailer, and run squealing from the room after an unexpected encounter.
She's watched tables walk upstairs, catballs fly across the room and seen more flashes of light, shadowy figures and weird goings on that you would care to imagine.
We were pretty excited to chat with Jess, who has been a friend of our YouTube channel for a few years now - we hope you enjoy this podcast.
Oh, and any questions for Jess, email us at areyoudyingtoknow@gmail.com and we will ask her to answer them for you.
