AMALIA CARDENAS is a Mexican / American web designer and developer who focuses on diversity in tech. She is an organizer at Codebar Barcelona, a non-profit initiative that aims to bridge the diversity gap in the tech industry by running free regular programming workshops aimed at women, LGBTQ and people from underrepresented minority groups. The goal is to enable the students to learn programming in a safe and collaborative environment and expand their career opportunities. Recently Amalia helped a woman in her 60s to make a career transition proving that you are never too old to learn something new. She also has her own podcast: Anyone Can Code.

IN THIS EPISODE In this episode Amalia tells us about the world of technology and programming – a world in which, until recently, we see very little diversity. The good news is, there is a huge demand for tech people, so companies are increasingly becoming more and more aware of the need of change and improvement in this area. Amalia and I also talk about the insecurities and fears one can have when transitioning into a new career, and about the great expectations we have to our own life.
