  • Episode 150 - CSB Incident Breakdown: September 29, 2024 Fire and Chemical Release at Bio-Lab Inc.
    2026/07/24

In this episode, Magi and Tori break down the most recent CSB final report: Bio-Lab Inc. Conyers Fire and Chemical Release. This incident caused 17 days of local lockdowns, including almost two weeks of school closures, and caused an estimated $50 million in damages. While thankfully there were no injuries associated with this event, it certainly is an extreme example of the havoc that can be caused when safeguards fail, which is much more likely when they are not up to proper process safety standards. Tune in to hear more details, and to learn what can be done to prevent incidents such as these!

The chemicals stored in the warehouse where this incident occurred were trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA), trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA) formulations, sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC), and Bromochloro 5,5-dimethylimidazolidine-2,4-dione (BCDMH) as well as other chemicals.
