  • 91. You Only Floss The Teeth You Want To Keep, with Samantha Coxe of Flaus
    2025/11/13

UPDATE SINCE ORIGINALLY AIRING: Flaus was just named one of Oprah’s Favorite Things!

Original air date: May 23, 2024

I like a good founder story, and I LOVE a good founder story that ends with a deal on Shark Tank! Samantha Coxe is a former lawyer who heard the call of entrepreneurship after being shamed by her dentist. She went on to create Flaus, the first electric flosser on the market and now she practically skips to the dentist's office to show off her pearly whites and her healthy gums, and she believes everyone should have this experience.

Use the code SAM20 at checkout for 20% off!

    WE COVERED:

    • Leaving her career in Big Law to bring her aha moment to life
    • How toothbrushes have had their moment and it's time to make room for floss-it's actually even more important than brushing
    • How she reimagined flossing make it sustainable, accessible, and even chic
    • The environmental impact of using string floss-ew. For an on-point dental cliché- once you know, you can't put that toothpaste back in the tube
    • Busting through the ableist mindset that prevents access to entire product categories by an able-bodied community

  • 90. If You Can Walk, You Can Ruck, with Emily McCarthy of GORUCK
    2025/10/30

Original air date September 24, 2024

Rucking burns three times the number of calories as walking, on average. Do I have your attention now? According to today's guest, rucking (walking with weight), will be bigger than running.

Emily McCarthy, co-founder and head of community at GORUCK, has a story to tell. She's a former Central Intelligence Agency case officer- her first assignment was to meet with Sudanese rebel leaders to discuss the Darfur Peace Agreement- who learned firsthand the importance of being physically and logistically prepared for ANY situation.

She and her husband Jason, a former Green Beret, co-founded GORUCK with the vision to do just that: give people the gear and training to build strength and learn how to embrace the suck.

    WE COVERED:

    • Rucking goes back as long as civilization, but it's been closeted in the military until now
    • She and her husband simply set out to develop the products they NEEDED, before turning it into a business
    • All about that 3x calorie burn
    • Rucking sneaks in the strength without being in a weight room
    • Changing weight, elevation and pace can create a totally different workout
    • Rucking breeds community—the importance of knowing your neighbors is more valuable now than ever before
