What does it mean to truly hunger for God? In this message drawn from John 6, we are confronted with a powerful and uncomfortable question: are we seeking Jesus himself, or are we simply seeking what he can do for us? The crowd that followed Jesus after the feeding of the five thousand is a mirror held up to our own hearts. They had witnessed something extraordinary, yet they came back looking for another meal, another sign, another benefit. And Jesus, rather than performing another miracle, offered them something far greater: himself. The bread of life. This message challenges us to examine what we are actually feasting on in our daily lives. When we are depleted, stressed, lonely, or afraid, where do we turn? The spiritual practice of prayer and fasting is not about religious performance or willpower. It is about intentionally clearing away the noise and the comfort and the distraction so that we can see Jesus clearly, receive his word deeply, and align our hearts with his will. There is a kind of spiritual numbness that can settle in when we have been around the things of God for a long time without pressing into God himself. This message is an invitation to shake off that numbness and return to the table where real nourishment is found.
