He didn't blink. I slowed down, and the pumpkin's grin seemed to widen as I passed. Over the next few years, I heard stories: a drifter who'd disappeared in the nineties, a string of missing hikers, a photo found in a gas station—a jack-o'-lantern with human teeth.
