  • 146. Why FOMO hits so much harder once you have kids
    2026/07/10

This episode was inspired by and Instagram story I shared about skipping a dinner party I really wanted to go to and how I KNEW before the photos came out, that I’d made the right call.

So many of you reached out wanting more about this topic that I had to record an episode as fast as I could.

We're talking about FOMO: what it actually is, why it gets so much heavier and more layered once you become a parent, and the three questions I ask myself — and my clients — before deciding if something's a hell yeah or a "not right now."

    In this episode, we cover:

    • (00:00) Intro
    • (04:10) What we actually mean when we say "FOMO"
    • (06:41) FOMO as a career coach: the career you might've had before kids
    • (09:10) Why FOMO and time are inextricably connected
    • (10:10) FOMO before kids vs. FOMO after kids
    • (15:20) Your time away from kids "quota" — actual, and the psychological one you invent
    • (16:54) FOMO and finances: what you're really risking
    • (17:34) "If you say yes to this, what are you saying no to?"
    • (19:42) What actually triggers FOMO
    • (22:09) How to work with FOMO: creating a rhythm
    • (31:21) Checking your ego vs. your soul
    • (32:37) Commit and don't look back — why regret isn't allowed here
    • (34:53) How to prevent it: choosing wisely
    • (37:56) The 3 questions: factors, focus, and options

    KEY TAKEAWAY

Before you say yes or no to anything, ask: what are the factors surrounding this? What am I focusing on right now? And what are my options beyond just "go or don't go"? Then commit, and don't look back — you're allowed to learn from a decision, you're never required to regret it.

  • 145. Food noise, hormones, and what moms are secretly talking about with Dr. Ally Power and Liz Dornian
    2026/07/03
A note on this episode → weight loss is a topic that can be triggering, and that's not lost on us. If today's episode isn't for you right now, it’s more than okay to skip this one. If you're in a season where food, body image, or weight feels like more than you can carry alone, visit nedic.ca for a free national helpline, and a directory of local providers.Weight loss has become a taboo topic, something that we almost whisper and talk about in secret, but it’s a topic that keeps showing up in nearly every conversation Dr. Ally Power and Liz Dornian have with the moms they work with.We get into what's actually driving the desire to lose weight, why "the middle ground" between restrictive dieting and total food freedom barely exists in the culture we're swimming in, what GLP-1s are actually doing for the right person, why biohacking makes two health professionals roll their eyes, and the specific, deep-seated shame of already knowing exactly what you're "supposed" to do — and still not doing it.This one is about feeling better in the one body you get.In this episode, we cover:(00:00) Intro(01:01) The topic we've never covered before: weight loss(02:58) Meet Dr. Ally Power: naturopathic medicine for moms(07:01) Meet Liz Dornian: from "nobody wants to hear about nourishment" to weight management(10:16) The real reason moms want to lose weight(15:17) What's actually in "the middle" between diet culture's two extremes(20:56) Moving through weight loss after a history of disordered eating(27:00) What too much restriction actually does to your hormones(33:30) GLP-1s: what they do, and who they're for(38:53) Are GLP-1s putting nutritionists out of business?(44:11) The problem with biohacking, and the unsexy advice that works(54:14) The shame of knowing exactly what to do — and still not doing it(59:33) Detective work, not diet rules: how Liz helps clients find the real problem(01:03:28) Andrea's career-coaching parallel: it's never really about the job (or the weight)KEY TAKEAWAY Weight loss isn't a moral failing or a finish line — it's hormones, behaviour change, and a lot of self-compassion. Most of us already know what to do. The real work is figuring out why we're not doing it, and getting curious about that instead of ashamed of it.About Dr. Ally PowerDr. Ally Power is a naturopathic doctor and motherhood coach who helps moms move from burnout and overwhelm to more balance, energy, and confidence in their bodies. She blends naturopathic medicine, lifestyle coaching, and compassionate accountability to help mothers reclaim their energy, understand what their hormones are really doing, and feel like themselves again, without adding more pressure. • 144. What nobody tells you about going back to work after maternity leave — Andrea Giacomelli
    2026/06/19

There's a phase of working motherhood that is underrepresented, everyone talks about the birth announcement, the first day back, but no one talks about all the messy stuff in between.

We're talking about finding out you're pregnant three months into a new job. Being diagnosed with HELLP syndrome at 38 weeks and having your baby under general anesthesia in the span of 12 hours. Going off your ADHD medication during pregnancy. Taking nine months of mat leave. And returning to work while simultaneously moving cities, starting daycare, doing a renovation, and your husband switching jobs.

It's a lot. We get into all of it — and the joy and complexities that threads through every single part.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • (00:00) Intro
    • (01:21) The working mom phase nobody's talking about
    • (03:35) Career, Australia, and falling for an Australian
    • (05:18) Getting pregnant 3 months into a new job
    • (12:45) Going off ADHD meds and working through pregnancy
    • (14:09) Miles comes early
    • (14:48) HELLP syndrome: what it is and why nobody warns you
    • (19:33) "He just appeared"
    • (20:35) The guilt of no handover — and did it actually matter?
    • (25:09) ADHD and new motherhood
    • (27:36) The 9-month mat leave decision
    • (33:45) The September of everything
    • (38:08) Leaving at 4pm and the guilt that follows
    • (39:48) What would actually fix this
    • (46:43) Baby number two?
    • (51:35) "I thank my ADHD for that" — and the EI plot twist nobody told her about
    • (53:12) ADHD meds in pregnancy: what to know
    • (54:25) The HELLP syndrome PSA + closing thoughts

KEY TAKEAWAYThe guilt is almost never warranted. The plan almost never goes as planned. And somehow, you figure it out anyway.
