  • One Minute Can Change Everything: Take Control of Grant Deadlines
    2026/08/25

Have you ever found yourself racing against the clock to submit a grant application?

In this episode, I’m sharing a real experience that taught me a lesson I have never forgotten: a grant deadline is not a suggestion. It is a firm commitment, and being even one minute late could cost your nonprofit thousands—or even millions—of dollars in funding.

For nonprofit founders, leaders, and CEOs, grant writing often comes with a lot of moving pieces. You may be waiting on financial documents, program information, board approvals, staff responses, or last-minute updates. But when everything is left until the final day, the pressure can become overwhelming.

That is why I teach nonprofits to stop working from the funder’s deadline and start creating their own internal deadlines.

During this episode, I introduce my Three-Deadline System, a practical approach that helps nonprofit teams stay organized, reduce stress, and submit stronger grant applications on time.

    You will learn:

    • Why the funder’s deadline should never be your working deadline
    • How to create an internal deadline at least two days before the official due date
    • Why every team member needs clear responsibilities and expectations
    • How early information requests can prevent last-minute confusion
    • Why reviewing and submitting early gives your nonprofit room to correct mistakes
    • How better planning can protect your organization’s funding opportunities

The goal is not simply to get the application submitted. The goal is to build a grant process that is calm, organized, strategic, and repeatable.

Your nonprofit should not have to operate in a constant state of urgency. With the right systems, you can protect your peace, lead your team more effectively, and pursue funding with greater confidence.

Remember: the deadline the funder gives you is their deadline. Your nonprofit needs its own.
