In this episode of The Brain Bus: Tiny Explorers, children discover that hippos produce their own pink sunscreen right through their skin - and that a baby elephant can already walk on the day it is born. It is about 13 minutes of gentle, screen-free listening shaped specifically for ages 2–4.

Nova takes little listeners on a quiet, vivid journey across the African savanna, introducing elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, hippos, zebras, and meerkats through simple language and warm sound design. Along the way, children hear a retelling of a traditional Maasai story about caring for animals and the land. A short quiz and a movement-based road challenge give kids something active to do in the back seat - making this a natural fit for screen-free quiet time on a long drive. Parents searching for a preschool podcast or a podcast for 2 year olds that holds attention without a screen will find the pacing and repetition in this episode well-matched to how young children absorb new ideas.

What You'll Discover:
• A baby elephant is born nearly as heavy as a grown-up person and can walk on its first day
• Giraffes have hearts as big as a watermelon to pump blood all the way up their long necks
• Hippos produce a pink, gooey substance through their skin that acts as natural sunscreen
• The Maasai people of Kenya and Tanzania have lived alongside savanna animals for hundreds of years
• No two zebras have exactly the same stripe pattern - just like fingerprints

All animals are introduced with warmth and wonder - predators like the cheetah are mentioned only in the context of their amazing bodies, never in a frightening way, making this episode comfortable for unsupervised car listening with 2–4 year olds.

The road challenge invites kids to wiggle their nose like an elephant's trunk, stretch their arms like a giraffe's neck, and curl up like a sleepy lion cub - which means tiny passengers stay engaged right until the next exit.
