Politics, protests, immigration, elections, education and the small matter of whether Andrew and Ryan should ever be allowed to write the rules.

This episode starts with the usual catch-up and the less glamorous side of making videos and serving in the military, before moving into recent UK immigration protests around Dover and Portsmouth, protest restrictions, face coverings and the rather extraordinary idea of a village declaring independence over asylum-seeker accommodation.

From there, the conversation heads across the Atlantic. Andrew and Ryan compare British and American politics, including election spending, wealthy political donors and the influence money can have on the political process.

The conversation then gets considerably more ambitious — and probably less qualified — as they get into education, civic responsibility, economic reform, Argentina's recent austerity measures and competing ideas about who should have the right to vote.

Eventually, the obvious conclusion is reached: if everyone else is doing politics wrong, perhaps Andrew and Ryan should think about writing their own manifesto and fix the world.

As usual, it doesn't stay entirely serious. They get into political legitimacy, historical examples of public unrest, the military mindset and the growing frustration that can emerge when people feel institutions aren't listening — before briefly touching on Nick Shirley's legal action in California and deciding to wait for more information before wading in.

What starts with a conversation about holidays and traditions quickly turns into the sort of transatlantic ramble you've come to expect from Naval Gazing.

Andrew and Ryan compare British and American holiday traditions, from Christmas, Boxing Day and British pub culture to Thanksgiving and family gatherings. Along the way, they get into nostalgia, growing up, changing family life, university memories and why the traditions we inherit often stick around long after we stop questioning them.

And, inevitably, the conversation finds its way back to military life - including the particular brand of dark humour, camaraderie and shared experiences that make some jokes work brilliantly inside the group and fall completely flat outside it.
