    Episode 2 – Neil Peart

In this episode, we are backstage at the infamous "coo shed" that is Ingliston Show Ground on the outskirts of Edinburgh in Scotland.

Legendary Scottish rock DJ, Tom Russell, was a wee bit nervous as he sat down with one of rock's greatest drummers and storytellers, the enigmatic Neil Peart of Canadian prog rockers, Rush.

The band had just finished playing, and it's fair to say that Neil was not impressed by the venue's sound or the layout for the fans. What follows is a fascinating discussion about touring, venue choice and the rigours of being in one of the world's biggest touring acts.

The sound quality of this interview is a bit muddy at times, but please bear with us as it improves as Tom and Neil continue the discussion.

A rare treat for Rush and music fans, and we think, despite his nerves, Tom comes out of this as an excellent interviewer.

So turn it up. Let's go backstage.

  • Tom Russell with David Coverdale (1989)

    Episode 1 – David Coverdale

Our journey begins in London in 1989.

At the EMI offices at Manchester Square, legendary Scottish rock DJ, Tom Russell sat down with one of rock's most charismatic frontmen, David Coverdale of Whitesnake. The band was riding high on the success of their multimillion-selling album, "1987," and their follow-up, "Slip of the Tongue," and Coverdale was in full flight, charming, cheeky, and generous.

This wasn’t your typical press junket interview. This was classic Coverdale, talking music, band members, The Glasgow Apollo, fame, the British press, and sharing a few off-the-cuff stories that couldn’t possibly be repeated in polite company.

In this debut episode, we dust off the original tape, let it roll, and react in real time. Tom shares memories of the meet up, we offer a few reflections of our own, and together, we invite you into a moment in rock history that feels as fresh now as it did then.

It’s the perfect way to kick off Access All Areas, a podcast built on a love of music.

So turn it up. Let’s go backstage.
