In this episode, Stephanie, Evelyn, and Richelle discuss how to tell if you're being abused. Sometimes, it's not apparent, and sometimes we talk ourselves out of believing our feelings.

Problems recognizing abuse:

  • Most of the time, most people don't realize they are being abused.
  • Children won't and can't know unless someone tells them.
  • Many adults don't know, even if they never experienced abuse as a child.
  • It is not always obvious when someone is being abused if it's not physical or sexual.
  • Behavior passed off as "just what they're like."

Persistent and Consistent Red Flags:

  • Feeling that something is off or wrong.
  • Gaslighting about behavior from the abuser or yourself.
  • Persistent and ongoing behavior patterns.
