In this eighth episode of AI News, a former OpenAI and Anthropic researcher warns about the race toward superintelligence and the risks it could bring. The warning comes as AI systems become increasingly autonomous and China is already exploring the military use of humanoid robots.
At the same time, the possibilities offered by AI are becoming increasingly tangible. ChatGPT can now turn a simple sketch into an image, while Suno expands AI-powered music creation with its new v6 model and DeepSeek continues to drive down the cost of using advanced models. The impact is also extending well beyond digital tools: in Kenya, AI translates teachers’ lessons into sign language in real time, while scientific and medical research is exploring new ways to use these technologies, from studying the human genome to drug discovery.
This week therefore highlights two developments unfolding in parallel: systems capable of performing increasingly complex tasks, and growing questions about the limits we should place on them.
