    The Gateway Gazette Volume 2, No. 6 Wednesday, July 29, 2026 This is the last issue of "The Gateway Gazette." Many thanks to everyone who helped staff the room, burst, collate and staple braille papers, deliver the newspapers, and make occasional deliveries to the information desk and other places. Announcements Banquet Table Reservations Are you planning to reserve a banquet table for your affiliate or group of friends? Have you reserved a table, and submitted less than 8 names to Cecily at the Information Desk? If so, be sure to turn in the rest of the names by noon today, or other people will be seated at your table. What? Somebody forgot to get a banquet ticket? Get to registration, quick! The Winners of the Get Up and Get Moving Contest Are … During our Leadership Conference the Get Up and Get Moving Committee (GUGM) announced a contest -- we asked people to write about their journey to get to St. Louis. We judged all contest entries by evaluating three criteria: • Consistency: Walking every day or nearly every day. • Creative storytelling: Bring your journey to life by describing the "landmarks" you'd encounter on your imaginary walk to St. Louis. • Distance walked: Please include the distance you walked in your submission. We very much enjoyed the stories that all of you submitted, and appreciate the time you took to write them and share them with our committee. We have chosen one in-person winner and one virtual winner. The winners will receive Visa gift cards. Our in-person winner is Anthony Akamine. Our virtual winner is Danette Dixon. Thank you all for your participation in this challenge. We hope you enjoy the rest of the convention. Updates Today In conjunction with a league-wide policy established by Major League Baseball, the St. Louis Cardinals reserve the right to inspect all items entering Busch Stadium. Guests may bring in items such as: bags, purses and soft-sided coolers not exceeding 10" x 8" x 10"; food, non-alcoholic beverages in factory-sealed plastic bottles no larger than 2 liters; empty cups, mugs, tumblers or plastic bottles. Prohibited items include but are not limited to the following items: • Alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic beer • Aluminum containers • Glass bottles/items • Metal cans • Thermoses • Bags larger than 10" x 8" x 10" Guests are encouraged to limit bags for stadium entry. Exceptions will be made for medical bags and diaper bags with a child. All bags will be inspected upon entry. Additions Today, Friends of Bill W will meet in Sterling 5. We listened to users and improved features to make our technology more accessible. Come learn what we've built this year and get a sneak peek into the future. 3 p.m.: Connecting Through Accessible Telecommunications: Services, Solutions, and Support for the Blind Community; Hybrid; Regency Ballroom Join representatives from leading telecommunications companies for a discussion on the products, services, and accessibility features designed to support people who are blind or have low vision. Panelists will share information about accessible mobile devices, customer support options, emergency communications, assistive technologies, and emerging innovations that promote independence and connectivity. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about available resources, ask questions, and provide feedback directly to industry leaders working to improve accessibility in telecommunications. Panelists AT&T: Shaunta M. Aviles will discuss AT&T's commitment to advancing inclusive technology that helps customers who are blind or have low vision stay connected, independent, and informed through accessible services, innovation, and continued partnership. National Association of Broadcasters: Larry Walke will discuss recent policy changes regarding access to video programming on television, including the expansion of audio description to additional television markets and more live programming, as well as technical developments like AI-powered audio description and ATSC 3.0 NextGen Television that have the potential to enhance access to video programming for persons who are blind or low vision. T-Mobile: Shellie Blakeney will discuss T-Mobile's commitment to accessibility and include a discussion about the company's programs and initiatives to support its customers, including network advancements, customer service/rate plans and strategic partnerships that help advance the company's objectives in the accessibility space. Verizon: Zach Bastian will review Verizon's customer services that notably accommodate persons who are blind or have other disabilities. He will specifically highlight new and exciting customer services that are soon to debut. Relief Area 1: Outside the 4th Street exit from the elevator banks, turn left. It's about 30 steps, just past the smoking area. There are soft and hard surfaces for relieving. Relief Area 2: Outside the lobby entrance to the right of the valet driveway. Hard and soft surfaces are available for dog relief. Neighborhood Park: If you go down the driveway to the right and cross the street, there's an incline that goes to the park. If you go down the driveway and turn left, you can get to the park, but there are steps there. If your dog has an accident, please stay by the accident and call Tim Stone at (661) 714-0749. Do not leave the scene until he arrives. Want to Listen to the Daily Newspaper? The audio version of the daily newspaper runs on ACB Media 10 every hour on the hour. The audio version of the daily newspaper is also available as a podcast on the ACB Conference and Convention podcast feed.     The Gaay Gazette Volume 2, No. 1 Friday, July 24, 2026 Welcome to St. Louis! We're glad you're here. It will be a busy week of meetings, general sessions, breakouts, and more. Hopefully, your flight into St. Louis was uneventful. The Marcia Nigro Dresser Communication Center is in Sterling 8 on the second floor of the hotel, next door to Registration. It is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, July 24 through Wednesday, July 29. This is where you can place ads in the paper, make braille or print copies, or volunteer to help produce the newspaper. If you can't make it down to the Communication Center, you may email your ad or announcement to slovering@acb.org. The cost of advertising in the newspaper is: • Individuals, ACB affiliates and blind representatives of MLM companies - $25/day or $60 for 3 days • Exhibitors - $40/day or $110 for 3 days • All others - $50/day or $140 for 3 days. You pay for advertising at Registration; show your receipt at the Communication Center when submitting your ad. Ads and other items for publication must be in the Communication Center by 2 p.m. each day. The BOP allows ads to run for up to three days to give important convention announcements more space. Ads must be no longer than 75 words. BOP editorial policy prohibits the production or distribution of campaign materials by the Communication Center. Photocopying is available at the Communication Center for 10 cents/page. Brailling services are available as follows: • Individuals, ACB affiliates, and blind representatives of MLM companies: 10 cents/page • Small businesses and small nonprofits: 20 cents/page • All others: 35 cents/page If your committee or affiliate needs something in braille or large print, bring files early in the day so we can fit your job between other tasks. A test copy will be printed to let you know the number of pages per copy. Be sure to tell us how many of each format you need and by what time. Please make payment at registration.
