Dealmakers skipped the quiet autumn: a C$804 million seafood takeover, an 81% China exit, and enough battery and nuclear money to light up a small grid.

Umios, the Tokyo seafood and marine-protein group, agreed to buy Canada's High Liner Foods at C$27.00 a share — roughly C$804 million in cash — knitting Umios' access to about a quarter of Bering Sea pollock together with High Liner's North American processing and distribution. High Liner stays headquartered in Nova Scotia as the core of Umios' North American base, with closing expected in January 2027 pending shareholder and antitrust approvals.

Also this week: Alamo Group bought UK gritting-truck maker Econ Engineering of Ripon, North Yorkshire for £120 million (about $158.7 million); A.O. Smith agreed to sell 81% of its China holding company to asset manager CPE at a roughly $400 million valuation, keeping 19% and a brand license and repatriating about $80 million; Elementl Power signed a letter of intent for up to $750 million with a consortium led by DS Investment Partners, with Samsung C&T as a potential strategic investor, covering a 1.5 GW Ohio site using GE Vernova Hitachi BWRX-300 reactors; Group14 raised a €150 million (about $169 million) Series D extension for a third plant in Sagunto, Spain, taking the round past $665 million; BloomX closed a $13 million Series A led by Elah Fund; Cadiz raised $21 million for its Mojave Groundwater Bank; Planted Detroit, once Michigan's largest vertical farm, goes to sealed-bid auction with bids due November 16; CATL unveiled the 9 MWh TENER+ system; the USDA advanced about $139 million for Intrepid Potash and $116.9 million for Sedron; and Oishii targets 500-plus U.S. stores across 25 states on a 282% jump in strawberry output.

The premium edition, Tank Mix, digs into crop protection: records up from 123 to 173 year on year, with the headline $930.4 million in funding shrinking to $124.8 million once Tessenderlo Group's FMC investment and duplicates are stripped out — still a 14.2% rise on 78% more transactions.
