A Substitute King

Throughout history, people have often exchanged God's perfect leadership for something that seemed more appealing, more familiar, or more comfortable. Israel's request for an earthly king is a sobering reminder that whenever we replace God's authority with our own desires, we settle for less than His best. The account is rooted in 1 Samuel 8, where the people asked for a human king instead of trusting the Lord's rule.

In this episode, we'll examine what it means to make something—or someone—a substitute king in our lives, and why Jesus Christ alone deserves the throne of our hearts.
