A Love Supreme explores the ever-evolving landscape of modern jazz while celebrating the rich musical traditions from which it emerged. Drawing connections between contemporary innovators and the enduring influences of blues, gospel, folk, world music, and the great jazz masters, each program presents jazz as a living, evolving art form. Through thoughtfully curated themes that often explore social justice, civil rights, democracy, the environment, peace, and our shared humanity, the show invites listeners on a journey of discovery where adventurous new voices, timeless recordings, and global musical traditions come together in a spirit of creativity, improvisation, and hope.© 2026 Lisa Sahulka, WPKN 音楽

    2026/08/07

This week on A Love Supreme, we’re traveling a pretty wide road—starting with the deep spiritual waters of Sweet Honey in the Rock and moving through freedom songs, South African grooves, hard bop, soul jazz, poetry, folk, and some music that doesn’t really need a category at all. Along the way we’ll hear Abdullah Ibrahim, Moses Molelekwa, Charles Lloyd, Cassandra Wilson, Leon Thomas, Shabaka, Somi, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Brad Mehldau, Isaiah Collier, Nduduzo Makhathini and a whole lot more. There’s a thread running through all of it: freedom, spirit, resistance, beauty, social justice, and the strange business of being alive—music that has something to say about the world we live in, and sometimes about how we might change it. We’ll even wander from Miles Davis to Neil Young and Leonard Cohen and back again—because around here, if it swings, speaks, aches, or tells us something true, it belongs. This is A Love Supreme.
