What if the way we pray reveals something deeper about what we truly value? As we continue walking through the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6, we are confronted with a striking structural reality: Jesus devoted more of this model prayer to worship and spiritual needs than to practical ones. The ratio is three petitions toward God, two toward our spiritual needs, and only one toward our physical needs. Yet most of us pray in reverse. This sermon invites us to examine whether our prayers reflect the priorities of the kingdom of heaven or simply the priorities of our own comfort. At the heart of this passage is the petition 'forgive us our debts,' and what unfolds is a rich and searching exploration of why daily confession is not optional for the believer. Even though our sins are legally covered by the blood of Christ, our daily struggles with sin still affect our relationship with our Heavenly Father in real and practical ways. Just as a child remains a child even in disobedience, yet the relationship suffers until reconciliation is sought, so too must we return to our Father daily with honest, specific confession. This is not about earning forgiveness again and again. It is about keeping our hearts soft, our consciences sharp, and our relationship with God whole and alive.
