Reflecting on the parable of the Prodigal Son, Fr. Simon reminds us that at the heart of the story is the compassionate and unconditional love of God, a Father who always welcomes His children home with open arms.
Yet reconciliation is more than simply confessing our sins. It is a conversion of the heart: recognising where we have fallen, returning to God, and sincerely desiring to change. Even when we struggle with habitual sins and repeated failures, God never tires of inviting us back to Him.
Fr. Simon then challenges us to go one step further. Having experienced God’s mercy ourselves, can we become instruments of that same mercy to others—especially those who no longer come to church or feel distant from God?
Through patience, kindness, forgiveness, compassion and a non-judgmental heart, our lives can help others encounter God.
