The ancient stone walls of the Alamo trembled beneath another thunderous cannon blast.
Mexican soldiers surged forward in wave after wave, their battle cries echoing through the cold dawn air of March 6th, 1836.
The defenders, fewer than two hundred Americans, had held out against overwhelming odds for thirteen days hoping for reinforcements.
Near one section of the crumbling wall stood a tall, broad-shouldered frontiersman wearing a worn buckskin hunting shirt. His long rifle he named “Old Betsy” flashed again and again.
When powder ran out, he seized Old Betsy by the barrel and swung it like a club against Mexican soldiers pouring through the breach.
David “Davy” Crockett had fought bears, hostile natives, and fierce political battles in Washington his entire life. Now, surrounded by 2,000 heavy assault troops, he fought for something far more important.
Liberty itself.
And to the end, he never gave in or gave up. In fact, the great American name, Davy Crockett, is synonymous with the story of America.
