Twenty-five years later, September 11, 2001, is still more than a date in history.
For Tug, it is personal.
On the morning of September 11, he was supposed to be inside the Pentagon, sitting beside his friend and colleague Gerry Moran after the morning intelligence brief. But he was running late. A phone call moved their meeting to 1:00 p.m.
At 9:37:46 a.m., American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon.
Gerry never made it to one o’clock.
Tug did.
In this deeply personal episode of Olde Salty Bastards – The Show, Tug looks back on the people he knew and worked with who were lost that morning, the 184 people killed in the attack on the Pentagon, and the passengers and crew of United Flight 93 who fought back before the aircraft came down near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
This episode is not about replaying the images everyone has already seen a thousand times.
It is about the people.
The coworkers.
The friends.
The service members.
The civilians.
The passengers.
The crew.
The families who never got another phone call, another dinner, another birthday, or another ordinary day together.
September 11 happened in New York.
It happened at the Pentagon in Arlington.
And it happened in a field near Shanksville.
Twenty-five years later, they all deserve to be remembered.
Never Forget was never supposed to mean never forget the footage.
It means never forget the people.
Say their names.
Remember New York.
Remember Arlington.
Remember Shanksville.
Remember them all.
