  • Near No-Hitter in New York
    2024/05/13
The Braves were three outs away from sweeping the Mets, but A.J. Minter blew the save in Sunday night's 4-3 loss. Eric & David begin with Minter's struggles in the closer role and explain why he was put in the game in that spot before ultimately giving up Brandon Nimmo's walk-off homer. (06:00) Austin Riley exited the game early on Sunday due to left side tightness and is currently day-to-day. He was replaced by the recently acquired Zack Short. (14:00) Max Fried had a no-hitter going on Saturday afternoon, but was lifted after throwing 109 pitches through seven innings. Atlanta was one out away from a combined no hitter, but Raisel Iglesias allowed a solo homer to J.D. Martinez in the 4-1 victory. The Braves have not had a no-hitter since Kent Mercker threw one in 1994. (25:30) Atlanta has one of the best records in baseball despite the offense under performing. Ronald Acuña Jr.'s OPS is only .714 this season and David notes how the winning thus far is more because of pitching than hitting. (31:00) The team returns to Truist Park for a three game series. vs. the Cubs. Later this month the Braves will play in Pittsburgh and they might face Paul Skenes. The hosts discuss what they've seen from last summer's #1 overall pick. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

  • Braves Bounce Back Against Boston
    2024/05/09
The Braves authored a two game sweep this week over the Red Sox after a rough trip in Seattle and Los Angeles. David & Eric begin with Chris Sale, who earned the win on Wednesday night against his old team. Sale struck out ten batters in six innings in the 5-0 victory. (05:00) Marcell Ozuna homered twice on Wednesday night and David lays out just how incredible his numbers at the plate have been since May of 2023. Ozuna currently leads baseball with 12 home runs, just ahead of Shohei Ohtani and Kyle Tucker. (13:00) More on Sale's numbers for this season. He is tied for 3rd in the National League in wins with five and leads the team with the lowest WHIP (0.98). (17:15) Tyler Matzek was placed on the IL and it was listed as elbow inflammation. Taking his roster spot is Ray Kerr, he is a left handed pitcher who Atlanta acquired in a trade with the Padres in December. (20:00) The Braves trail Philadelphia by two games in the division as the Phillies recently had a seven game win streak snapped. (23:00) Matt Olson had a pair of hits in the series and his currently hitting just at .200. He has had a lot of hard hit balls lately that have died at the warning track. Olson has gone 26 consecutive games without a homer. (29:00) Explanation of the recent trades where the Braves sent Luis Guillorme to the Angels and acquired Zack Short from Boston. Short is not a hitter, but provides a better option to backup Orlando Arcia when needed. Arcia homered on Wednesday and went back-to-back with Ozuna, the first time this season the offense has pulled off that feat. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

  • Braves Avoid the Sweep in Seattle
    2024/05/02
The Braves lost the first two games in Seattle and won 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon on the series finale. David & Eric begin though with the local TV situation in Atlanta as the standoff between Bally Sports and Comcast/Xfinity meant on Wednesday that many local fans were unable to watch the game on cable or on MLB.TV due to blackout rules. The only current solution is to stream the games through DirecTV Stream or Fubo. (15:45) As April has come to a close, Marcell Ozuna is prime contender to win Player of the Month. It will likely either be him or Mookie Betts of the Dodgers. They will play against each other this weekend in Los Angeles. (20:45) Ronald Acuña Jr. played in all three games this series and struck out a combined eight times. He has struck out 38 times so far this season and the team has only played 29 games. (28:00) Matt Olson is also struggling as his batting average is currently at .206. He only had one hit in Seattle and has not had a multi hit game since April 14th. (09:00) Chris Sale and Charlie Morton each threw really good outings in the first two games of the series. • Dominant Starting Pitching in the Sweep of Miami
    2024/04/25
The Braves took all three games in Atlanta against the last place Marlins as they have the best record in baseball. David & Eric begin by joking about the spoiled fans who were aggravated at the bullpen faltering in the top of the 9th in a game that ultimately ended in a 4-3 victory in extras on Wednesday evening. (04:30) Max Fried threw a complete game shutout in the 5-0 triumph on Tuesday night. It was a "Maddux" as it took him less than 100 pitches to go the distance in a contest took less than two hours. (09:00) Reynaldo Lopez had another superb outing as he only allowed one run in 7 IP in the series finale. His ERA this season is 0.72 in four starts thus far. (12:00) The series opener was a 3-0 victory where Bryce Elder was unscathed in his first MLB start of the season. (19:00) The Braves are 5-1 on the home stand and they have won nine of their past 10 games. The 'pen has returned to the high level it was pitching at prior to the Mets series loss a few weeks ago. A.J. Minter had a very clutch outing as he threw a scoreless top of the 10th despite giving up a hit and inheriting a ghost runner. Michael Harris II capped off the sweep with a walk-off double that brought in Ronald Acuña Jr. Harris was moved up in the order after the injury to Ozzie Albies. (29:00) Next up is a three game series at Truist Park vs. Cleveland who surprisingly has best record in the American League. The hosts note though that the bulk of their victories so far have come against the Athletics and the White Sox. (42:00) David shares a pair quotation from veterans this home stand that encapsulate the excellent and fun culture that surrounds the winning club. Learn more about your ad choices.
